Golddigga Posted December 6, 2006 Share Posted December 6, 2006 Can anybody help me? I have noticed that on start up that my power steering is noisy - not majorly but just noticable. This seems to wear off when the car is driven and given a chance to warm up. Is this normal? or is there anything I should do? Rgds, Chris. Nic Posted December 6, 2006 Share Posted December 6, 2006 Top up fluid and bleed the system first, as decribed in the attached doc, hopefully this will cure the problem. If the bearing breaks up the PAS fluid circulation can distribute the metal bits around the power steering system. You really don't want to be needing a new rack at £600 a pop. Chris Wilson Posted December 6, 2006 Share Posted December 6, 2006 I can supply overhauled pumps, exchange, for 120 quid. Remove the fluid reservoir and clean it out with brake cleaner and an air line, the gauze strainer can block up, if the fluid is very dirty you may be looking at a new rack soon... Golddigga Posted December 20, 2006 Author Share Posted December 20, 2006 Ok - I had all of the fluid levels on the car checked and the PAS fluid was a bit low so it was topped up. It was also lock-to-locked to bleed the system? Following this I have not moved the car out of my garage for the last week and a half or so. When I got the car out last night, on start up I could hear the power steering. When the car gets warm the noise disappears. Is it worth trying to bleed the system again and clean the PAS reservoir or is it worth booking the car back in to have the PAS taken apart to see what's wrong? My mechanic says that the system could have an internal leak? There is no fluid coming out under the car that I can see - somebody mentioned to me a reseal and bearing set - could this be the answer?
