ChrisSZ
I do know of the tool but I don't know of ways around it (unless you have a manual transmission) - it may be possible to undo the nut by sticking a socket over it, resting a breaker bar against the chassis and turning the engine over on the starter (undo the HT lead first). If the job's been done before and some plum has used loctite you're gonna need a whole lotta force to get the nut off (after destroying two sockets we ended up welding a socket onto the nut and using a 4ft breaker bar to shift the bugger!!) Have fun :)
Graham S
And don't forget you'll probably need a puller to get the pulley off! You'll more than likely struggle to get it off without one! Have fun!
dini_the_owl
hi mate, the best way around it i think if you have a manual is put it in 1st gear and put handbrake on and it should come loose quite easy, youll definately need a puller to get it off as its held in by a key,it will only go back on in one position to allign with the key so you cant get it wrong, just make sure you allign the marks on the pulley to the marks on the casing (check the 1st piston is at firing stroke) else it can be 180 out on the pulley and remove it. youll have to put it neutral after cause you dont want it to move the crank, the best way really is lock up the flywheel on the gearbox side that way it definately wont move,if youve got an auto box its gonna be a pain in the ass. Rob
PDF file of the tool I made to lock crank pulley. If you want to borrow it I can post it for £10. Post it back to me when your finished. Doh, I spent ages photographing and measuring your tool so I could make my own set. I've nearly finished it but I can't find a suitable disc of metal. It's all salvaged goods you see. Hope my tool measured up to your expectations Rob I could sell you a suitable disc of material See if any local engineering firms have any, might even have a piece in their skip
Rob
Oh believe me, I've been in more skips than a wino recently. I've got loads of discs but the centre holes are all too big. Some local bloke wanted £40 to make a disc then he started on with "nah mate, you don't want to mess about, just stick a screwdriver into the flywheel" Yeah, right.
