Much, thanks :D

i was kinda guessing the drive shaft myself as well actually, 100% nothing to do with the suspension. only other thing it could be would be something to do with the gearbox or clutch but as you say my money is on the drivetrain.

any idea how much this will likely fleece me for?

OK its not gonna be too expensive.

Feeling better???

Probably a drive shaft of bearing by the sounds of it. If it was suspension the car wouldn't sit right so my guess for the sweepstake is drivetrain.

Wait til you get the full diagnosis and try 247spares or your local scrappy, no point in putting on new parts.

very good point.

there is actually a scrappy right next door to the garage i use, just noticed they have a similar age Audi Coupe in there......here's hoping the Audi parts bin was doing what it's supposed to!! :D

Did the Rac not give a diagnosis? Don't forget there are two driveshafts. It's possible that one has failed, but you would still have some sort of drive from the other wheel.

There's plenty of these cars in the scrap yards. I'd say buy what you can from one. Shouldn't think drive shafts will be too much.

How many miles has yours done?

Only with an LSD. It may just be a CV joint - they normally sound horrible if the balls disintegrate.

this is what my mechanic reckons as well. would that cause a total loss of all drive from the car and a nasty grinding noise when you push it?
