tbourner
My Vodafone contract has just ended, and I've got a D600 that needs upgrading but I don't know what I want to do. Plus I'm a phone-pleb!! First off, whenever I go in phones4U (what a bunch of numpties) they say I can't get any of the good deals unless I get a new contract which also means a new number. Is this true? Can I get good deals and stay with Vod or can I keep my number if I start a new contract (with either Vod or Orange or whoever)? Do I need a PAC code (what's that?)? Second, which phone? I don't really know what 3G is so I'm guessing I don't need it!! I'd like something stylish and preferably slimline - just been looking at the Samsung X820 that looks pretty nice. Kind of fancied a flipper though. When I changed from my Nokia 6230 to this D600 I hated it, wanted another Nokia, but there don't seem to be any good ones - and I'm kind of used to the weird Samsung now (except not being able to have ringtones and vibration at the same time and the AWFUL battery life as soon as the speakers start working - constantly in silent because of that!!). So what do we think? Can the X820 play sounds without running the battery out and can it do it whilst vibrating - has it even got vibration (not much room for a vibrator in there!!)? Any other options? KRZR any good? Any signs of keypad failure or anything silly? I think I'm choosing between a KRZR and X820 TBH. Both available free on new contracts with Orange. Never looked at Sonys, my missus had a K750 or something which was PANTS! Looked awful! None of them I've seen have caught my eye they all look rubbish (I'm a show off, need one that looks cool). Thought about a Nokia 8800 too, but they're a bit old now.
jaymdee
It's a mine field alright!! I think that you need to take out a new contract, but then get your old provider to send you a PAC code and swap the number over. I've (literally) just signed up for a new Sony Ericsson W850i Walkman phone with '3'. It's an 18 months contract, but first 9 months half price, including 500 anytime any network minutes and 100 texts per month - for £30/month (£15 for the first 9). Don't think it's too bad. jamesmark
IIRC you just need the PAK number to transfer your number it takes a few days in mean time you get a temp number. The W850 is a lovely phone the D900 looks amazing in pitures but when you actually see it it's awful fat thing
merckx
D900 looks amazing in pitures but when you actually see it it's awful fat thing It fits in your back pocket nice though! PAC - port authorisation code , they're obliged to give you it if you ask (your existing network provider). Just start a contract with a new network , get your phone with your new number etc. Then give them your PAC and they'll arrange a date to assign your old number to your new phone. I had to wait one week.
jamesmark
02 online offers great packages although there 18 month contract does not allow you to upgrade till 18 months are up, but I find they offer some amazing deals.
Dr_Doom
I just started a new 12 month contact with orange. Didn't go with o2 because the signal is really bad around here. Everythings going fine. I went for the Nokia N73 after a few people on here recomended it. It's a superb phone! Smallish phone, big high resolution screen & it does everything! The camera is excellent, so is the mp3 player etc... I've still not worked out what everything does and i've had it for 3 weeks!
