Took the car into the dreaded fit to get them to do a break check... no intention of having them do any actual work. So they call me up and tell me i need new pads all round, i say ok thanks forget it.

I buy Endless pads - Thanks to the group buy. get one of my mates to take a look at the car for changing the pads. He tells me that the pads are fine. I say they dont feel right.

What do we find! there is air in the system!!!! grrrr this wasn't there before Kwick fit touched her.

So mad!!!!!

Does anyone have a how to on replacing the pads(front and rear) and replacing the fluid?

haha trust me that aint bad I went to Nationwide garage for an MOT on my MR2 a few years back. They phoned me up and said I needed 2 new calipers on the rear and it would cost me £1700! I asked them why I needed them and they couldnt answer. Picked up the car and told them to bugger off and took the car to my normal garage (about 20miles away) the guy had a good chuckle and said they had put the break pads the wrong way around, good thing I didnt take them for face value cant stand cow boys

I went to KF a week ago today. the new pads arrived on friday but i havn't had a chance to fit them.

Just curious but can pretty much tell you that the checks they do, do not involve anything that would cause air getting into your system?

It's really just a visual inspection!

I can't see why Kwik fit doing anything would have led to air in your system? They would only take off the wheels and visually inspect the brakes. It's not worth their time doing much more as they get loads of people like you going in to abuse the brake checks.

[edit] - just read what Tod put. Seems we agree.

*Maybe* they crack a joint or a brake nipple and let some air in so that the owner can feel that there's something wrong with the brakes & let them carry out the unnecessary work???

Or have I been watching too much of the 'Rogue Traders' type programs???

Person that will do the brake testing will have completed the relevant kwik Fit brake testers course, no one else is allowed to complete the checks, so in answer to your question, yes, a qualified member of staff completes the imspection.

Don't get me wrong, I am not a huge kwik Fit fan and there are plenty of idiots working for them but no more than at Toyota ;)

PS, Prefer the National tyres branch here anyway :D

When i told them that i didn't want anything done they said " but we have stripped it all down" so i think they might have taken the pads out

I took my old car (Pug 405) to kwik fit in Hull for an MOT once. They rang me up shortly after dropping it off and told me it needed new pads all round (which I knew). Then rang me up later and said it needed new rear shocks as they were leaking... well ok go on then may as well.

Phone me up later still and say, "sorry it's failed on emissions you need a new engine... but the guy at the garage next door has said they can do it for you cheap" Yeah right, no shit!

Went down to collect the car and they didn't want to give it me, "sorry it's not road legal we can't give it to you until the work is done" Soon as I raised my voice they handed over the keys and I paid for the pads and rear shocks and left.

Took it to another garage to get it MOT'd and it passed straight away... and guess what, they never changed the rear shocks! Got a full refund in the end, but bunch of tossers.

I took my old car into for an abs sensor check one time. The guy messed around with a trolly jack trying to jack the car and eventually checked the sensors for me.

I then drove around the block and noticed a rear wheel was scraping badly on some part of the inner wheel arch or suspension.

Took it straight back and he told me it was because the wheels were too big and there was no clearance, and just jacking it up made it settle different or something.

Now I was young and niave at the time and believed him, he bashed some part of the suspension with a hammer and eventually it seemed ok so I took it away.

the handling was wonkey, later I took it for full alightment - that's when I realised the monkey had first tried to jack it up on the rear suspension arms (the track control rods) and bent one to buggery (hence pulling the wheel in so much it rubbed) - he had tried to hammer it straight and just fobbed me off with BS...

needed new arms and it was a right pain.

lesson learned... I don't generally like to leave my car with anyone at all unless I trust them 100% as a highly recommended garage with the appropriate specialist knowledge for the car.

Friends GF drops of her KA at Ford for it's MOT. They came back saying the front pads needed changing(why is it always the pads could it be they a quick job) and the inside front tyres was to low.

Now her dad happened to work for VOSA and had changed the pads a couple of months before. So he went down with her to collect inspect the car. When they arrived he ask for the MOT failure sheet (apparently one has to be issued if a car fails), the greese monkey went into the back to get it. He called VOSA and asked when the failure notice was issued and suprise suprise the failure note had just that second been issued. When the monkey came back he then shows his VOSA card and has a word with the management :).

Said Ford garage then had visit from VOSA to check everything was the way it should be. What makes it worse is I would have though a Dealers garage would be on the ball.

Have you got a challenger near you ?

they did my fiesta rs turbo for me and that was really low .

But then again my brother did work for them at the time so they probably tryed that bit hardrer to do it rather than just say fuck it its too hard to do .

Pass, I find it hard to believe that you can put the pads in the "wrong way round" anyway, is that not physically impossible?

Anyway, my point is that these places are just as good and trustworthy as any garage, by that I mean there are good and bad ones. I wouldn't just drop in to one, would have to be recommended to me or be someone I know.
