chilli
Just had some guy banging at the door like he wanted to break it down. Made me jump I thought someone was trying to break in. I rush out there and find this short stumpy dumpy bloke who looked/smelt drunk clutching some mail, my mail! he informed me that it turned up at his house - and that he had kindly read it for me. It was a job offer (private and confidential) and he informed me I'd been offered the job etc - cheeky f*cker! anyway I'm glad he brought it round, had it have gone missing I could have potentially lost the job by the time it took to realise it was missing and sort it all out - job offers don't last forever. So this made me cross, we've had no end of jip with our mail so I've sent them a complaint as follows: -- Hi, We've always had a rather erratic postal service since I can remember (been at this address for 6 years or so now) but recently it's been getting worse. Today I had someone knock on my door to deliver my post from n Leylands Road! It was a private and confidential job offer which they had kindly opened and read as well! As you can imagine I was not especially impressed. Not to mention this letter was rather important and had they not bought it around I could have lost the important job offer! This is in addition to: 1: Sometimes we get mail for random people who don't live here. The only addressed recipients here are: xxx xxx xxx xxx We get mail for several other people, I have no idea who they are and it goes straight in the bin. 2: We get mail sometimes for n Gordon House - I can understand this might be slightly confusing but I'd hope that n Gordon Road can be distinguished from n Gordon House, Gordon Road. 3: We've had various other neighbours up Gordon Road and the surrounding area kindly bring us round our mail at random times, from random addresses. 4: Some of out mail doesn't turn up at all! Probably because it's been delivered to other random people in the area! 5: Sometimes our deliveries are just left outside the front door. Now this has been useful (sometimes) but I think it is down to luck that the items (sometimes valuable) haven't gone missing and I'd rather your staff didn't force us to take the risk with our goods. I'd be happy to collect it from a neighbour (a note through our door is all it takes) or come and collect it from the local depot. I'd rather not find random parcels on the front path for any passing stranger to walk off with. I'd really appreciate it if you can look into the reason for this poor service and rectify it as soon as possible. I'd also appreciate it if you would keep my details in relation to this complaint anonymous from any of your staff for obvious reasons. Thank you for your kind assistance, xxx -- not too harsh? well I hope it gets some results... anyone else have this much trouble with their post? Todd
anyone else have this much trouble with their post? What makes you think you should get preferential treatment Fed up telling my postie NOT to leave parcels with neighbours, walk across garden instead of using gate and leaving a pile of elastic bands on our front door every day! supragold
I have the same problem. Parcels left in full view on door step. Letters and bills going to other addresses. Infact I had an overdue bill through the door the other day stateing 3 letters had been previously sent. How bad is that!!!
hogmaw
He opened your mail and had the audacity to bring it round to you? Unbelievable!
michael
You'll probably get a book of stamps as compensation, your neighbour will bring it round when they deliver it to the wrong address.
Gazzawu
As long as the address is correct the postman has an obligation to deliver to that address no matter what the recipient is called. What you should do is DO NOT open the letters and write "return to sender" at the front then dump them back in the pillar box. The letters will be returned to the sender and hopefully you will be removed from their mailing list. Also if you get a temporary/ new postman how are they supposed to know who lives in there? I wouldnt be happy if parcels are left outside my door. However because i live in a flat sometimes the postman cant get into the building and i actually would rather have the postman leaving them somewhere in the building. If you dont have a flat number either then some new/temporary postman wont actually know where to deliver to. Would you rather have them sending undeliverable mail back to the sender? RedM
We live above a tiny village shop with an even tinier post office inside it. We know our Post people and they keep all our mail safe and sound for us. Lovely people and even nicer since they took in four Eagle F1s! Todd
Would you rather have them sending undeliverable mail back to the sender? No I'd rather they took it back to the sorting office and left me a card to say so (if a parcel). The amount of times I've had to chase parcels only to find that it's been dumped with someone that stays 3 doors away from me and they have forgoten about it
CardiffSupra
My postie won't leave any parcel on the door step even tho i live on a Private drive and ask them too, They won't even leave it with next door.
Gazzawu
except for parcels Now its xmas time you get a lot more casual posties floating about so beware. No I'd rather they took it back to the sorting office and left me a card to say so (if a parcel). mkirby
I will tell you a little secret I work for the royal mail, not in the letter side but parcelforce but i make a point of having a quick chat with what ever new postie i get and just drop it into conversation that i'm a commercial manager for royal mail and its funny how good you post gets then!! i even had one guy who came to my address with any parcels first before doing the rest of the round LOL so maybe worth telling a little fib and dropping it in that you work for royal mail and see if it helps?? also remember its now silly season and any complaint wont get very far if you send it in to the local office, i would call head office and get put through to the "MDs Office" and you see how quick issues get sorted then Mike
vvteye
Dear Chilli, I don't think you appreciate how hard I work, well it's fuckin' hard I can tell you. Mostly I get it right but there are times things just fuck up. Due to the tossers who live up your way and Gordon Road, I no longer deliver there but my cat does it's best. Well if this is the thanks we get for making an effort.. then fuck you... Last guy who complained... I kidnapped his daughter and I have proof! Rob
We sometimes find letters just in our road. I don't care how fricking "new" you are to the job, dropping mail in the road should not be an option to consider. Are these people actually in possession of a brain? hob
Funnily enough they are not as bad as USPS phoned (internationally) just now since a damaged item has taken 2 months (1 month to arrive and 1 month for "a claim") and zip has turned up. When on the phone to express my delight at the continuing battle to extract money from them, they simply cut me off when I asked to speak to a manager, who they claimed wasn't there, amazing that 5 mins later there was. chilli
wow seems like I'm not alone then... How hard can it be to deliver letters? I don't mind the odd mistake but it seems so bad that getting the right mail has become exception not the rule now! Is it really illegal to open someone elses post? I guess it's hard to prove anyway since it could have been an accident. That's the thing with this guy. Ok so maybe he opened it without looking, perhaps an easy mistake to make - but he must have had good read anyway after he realised because he told me all about it. That's rude, even if he had read it he should have had the decency to say nothing about it to me. ho hum, at least he bought it around though, would have been awkward if it had gone missing. doesn't sound like they are likely to sort the service out then if it is generally that bad all over the place? and I thought elastic bands on the floor was just a part of life these days lol
