Can you identify this suspension?

I know, I know, its not on a supra etc etc etc ;) but I thought since CW used to have a Skyline he might be able to help/advise! :D Pretty please ;)

 

I'm told its coilovers basically and they are only height adjustable. Now the ride is very harsh, set up for a smooth track or jap roads no doubt and its not wonderful for our marvellous B roads so I'd like to soften it a little if poss. I'm not too worried if I can't as I can live with it but if I can change it then :D

A semi-mechanically minded chap told me the spring platforms on the struts can adjust and so I should be able to just unwind the spring compression a bit to give it a bit more compliance.

 

Pics below, would be grateful if a) any one knows the type, and b) has any thoughts on adjusting as above?

Look like Tein (spit...) Certainly the only springs I see in green are Tein, and the damper spring platforms look like tein, too. My GTR had Ohlins on it, and very very pleasing they were, too. It also had tein springs, as they were available off the shelf in the rates I wanted. However, the top progressive bits of the windings on the rear springs knocked together and sounded JUST like a loose boot lid. Poor design, but for the track day usage it got it didn't REALLY matter.

Thanks for the reply Chris :D So its most like to be Tein then, I take it you don't like that stuff very much then!!! ;)

Are we right about the height adjustment? If you wind it down on the damper spring platform (eg towards the floor) it will just lower the car more?

Lowering the lower spring platform (winding it down) will lower the car. Front driveshafts go out of kilter and wear the joints and gaiters if lowered much, and like the Supra, the GTR does not respond well to a lot lower than stock ride heights. The seats threads look like they will need a good wire brushing and lubing before you alter them, from the photos. This will only alter the ride heiht, NOT the ride quality. Spring rates and / or damper rates need changing to do that

Great, thanks Chris - most appreciated. I'm not after adjusting the height so I'll leave it alone! Its not too lowered as there is still a few fingers gap between wheel and arch, definately not "slammed" LOL!! Although it does scrape now and then, more due to the firm ;) ride I think than anything!

I thought Tein straight away but they don't do a gold shock with green springs as far as I'm aware, the kits I've seen have been gold with black springs although someone could have swapped the springs to the Tein greens I guess.

 

I'm sticking with my original guess, just don't ask me to pronounce it :)
