jimsup
im in the process of replacing the thermostat on a 93, N/A supe. i took off the top and bottom rad hoses and drained the radiator also stuck the garden hose in the top rad hose and flushed most of the engine! i noticed the water reservoir was still full with water, how is this drained? im obviously missing something very simple, so please dont laugh lol!!! [OOPS][/OOPS] is there anything else i need to do as well? any help is appreciated Regards Jim
TrickTT
If you're talking about the overflow bottle, unbolt it and turn it upside down over a drain. Think its the same for the N/A - there is a block drain bolt toward the back of the engine on the exhaust side that will allow you to fully drain the block as well. jimsup
cheers mate! only a few litres came out so i know there is more to drain out! do you happen to have a pic of that drain bolt or more detailled location! ( as you can tell this is the first time flushing on a supe) Kind regards Jim
JohnA
There is a drain plug under the radiator, passenger side. Also do not allow Kent water to remain in the system. It is very hard.
jimsup
yeah i found that plug and have taken that out! maybe thats it then but still feel there is a lot more water to come out still Jim
TrickTT
I dont have a picture, but on a TT block it is below the exhaust manifold at the rear of the engine, between cylinder 5 and 6. Quite a large bolt (19mm?) If you reach up between the downpipe and block you should feel it. Not easy to get at and you will get wet when you undo it so be careful. You should be able to drain about 6 - 7 litres out in total as some coolant will always remain in the heater matrix.

Lucifer
Make sure you disconnect the Batter as the lower Rad hose is very close to the Altenator Live feed.
JohnA
...but still feel there is a lot more water to come out still Yes, there is more water, but if you change the lot from this one a few times it will have effectively flushed the lot. Just run the engine for a couple of minutes between each flush. I don't see any reason to disturb the rad hoses.
