Prof. Monkey
Bought a TT AUTO gearbox, but cannot get it collected, is there any harm with using the NA AUTO box to get me going?
Sheefa
Prof - guesswork, but I'm sure you'll experience problems with the TT ECU and gear timings on an NA Auto. Not sure if it would be safe to run though. Why cant you get it collected? Which couriers have you tried mate? Greg
Ian C
Aren't the gearboxes the same but have a different final drive to lower the gearing for the NA? -Ian
M4RK RZ
Well , to be honest thinking about it the TT gear boxes are prob that little bit different with some uprated parts and castings inside for the extra power running through them. Ide not go for it unless toyota themselfs said its the same box - call a dealer and blag an answer

They won't build a different gearbox for every Toyota in the range, and some boxes are 3rd party rebadged jobs that are the same across different manufacturers. And good luck in getting definitive advice from a Toyota dealer -Ian

Gamer
I thought I read somewhere that the TT box has a few more clutch/friction pads/plates then the NA. Could have just been my imagination though...

Lucifer
The boxes r the same!!!!! should go on no probs No they are not. The NA box is missing 3 clutches.
Whitesupraboy2
No they are not. The NA box is missing 3 clutches. I swear its only missing 2. Not that it makes any difference 2 or 3...they are still missing
Prof. Monkey
Ok they guy at the garage is unhelpful, he will not arrange a courier for me as the box will need to placed on a pallet. He says I need to sort one out, how am I meant to know who to use in the oxford area? The chap I bought it off was kind enough to give me the number of the garage that has hold of the box. I just wish I had the time to trundle down there and pick it up!

Miguel
And the NA auto has a cable kick down whereas the TT is electrical
Jezz
There's 3 types of auto box. Been removing these for 6 years. N/A's have the IB240. TT's have the IB280, and very late auto's have the IB320. Never took one apart to see the difference though. I do remember selling someone a IB280 to try in an N/A, and it drove like an absolute bag'o'shite.
Ian C
So I was nearly right Same boggo box, minor component changes. Clearly I didn't use enough exclamation marks in my assertations. -Ian
Chris Wilson
Early and late manuals differ, too, on the TT, and late 6 speed manual N/A's may be a different box, strength wise, to manual TT's, but have never looked inside a 6 speed N/A box. Keith C
Ooh - differ how?
8secSupra
The NA auto box uses a mechanical "kick down" from the throttle body, whereas the TT uses an electronic "kick down" from the throttle pedal through the ECU. The NA auto box is missing 2 additional VSV's and the valve body is different. They are not compatible at all sorry to say.
