You are right, its just a car.....and a silver one at that as well :D

 

it was a dual cariiage way, no by standers around, anywhere!

 

Imagine how guilty i'd feel it it was, im not one to put my foot down in public places!

Questions -

 

Were your tyres in good condition?

What make were they?

Air pressure?

 

car was all checked over, had a full service etc.

 

Tyres back had about 4mm tread, fronts about 2-3mm, they were crappy Kumho's tho! Was going to buy some Eagle F1's on the 30th when i get paid! :(

I thought so...Supra's get a bad name for being too tail happy, however I guess perhaps if you had better condition and quality rubber you may have avoided this.

 

I have learnt from experience that brakes + tyres are the most important component of the car and one should never skim on those. :friday:

Why wont people listen and buy RLTC, it would have saved this car and more importantly could save someone's life!

 

SupraKid.....wanna buy my car now?

 

When are people going to stop relying on gadgets to save their arses? Maybe if people didn't have supercomputer driven safety aids and a car that turns into a marshmellow on impact people would think more about their actions (this is general and not a dig at SK)- you'd drive differently if you had an 8 inch long spike poking out of the steering wheel...

this is very true, a car will only do what an owner tells it to do....you really need a sensible head and a wealth of experience to drive a supra in my opinion, they are a realy handfull in the wet and will not forgive you and no RLTC will not save you once the car has gone past its limits!!

 

Im just glad you and your mates are ok and im pretty sure your parents and relatives are too!!

 

and I think you buying Lee T's car which is almost touching Drag power would be a bad idea :( Sorry

I think its the ferocity of when the turbo comes in especially if you plant your foot in a gear less. Most of the above have excellent traction control systems, i know you say you shudnt rely on them but i still think they count for a lot in the above cars, especially for the less experienced driver on the road not track.

What about the TVRs???

 

I know thay have nowt do they! Maybe they are a handful in the wet too then! But how does 400horses of TVR NA compare to 300horses of TT with regard to power delivery. I would have thort the TVR would be a lot more predictable, and the power spread out over the whole range, whereas the TT just seems a massive lump of power in one hit which can easily catch you out.

I dunno never driven a fast NA car so not sure!

Well, I've been told I'm a cold hearted areshole many a time, but I'm still glad that Suprakid and his mates are OK. :D

 

Lots of us have been there, some of us are lucky to be able to tell the tale ;)

 

Some of us lucky older guys got to cut our teeth on RWD Cortinas, Escorts, Capris and the like, so got a feel for RWD handling before going onto the higher powered cars.

 

Saying that, when I was 18, I still managed to write off a year old Granada Ghia and walk away with only a few stitches after rolling it outside Gatwick airport, though that wasn't because I misjudged the handling, oh no!, far simpler than that ;) I was just driving much too fcuking fast :D

 

We all live and learn, I'm sure that SK has learn a valuable lesson from his accident, hopefully some of you other guys can do the same without having to put it into practice ;)

 

This time of year, just keep off the throttle. The roads are far too treacherous for anything more than the lightest touch.

 

I'm not going to revive the arguments for and against RLTC suffice to say that if you drive with minimal throttle, you'll never have any need for the RLTC to need to activate in the first place.

 

Let's be careful out there :)

What about the TVRs???

 

I think there are about as many TVR's in total as there are mkiv & mkiii Supras (say 7k?). The TVR's vastly outstrip us in the crash per car ratio, but what's worse is that the fatal percentage is very high per car.

 

Regarding your other cars- BMW's get crashed alot, but Ferrari's almost never get crashed, although I know of a F355 & a F40 that crashed last week. For reasons I have absolutely no idea about, people think they can drive a Supra like it's a Civic.

Agree with your post Gaz.

 

I think its more down to the driver as said before.

 

Not to mention that you can pick up a supra TT for 7K now, so that should explain a fair few incidents.

Geoff what is your TVR like compared to your TT?

 

The TVR is absolutely lethal in the wet with anything more than just cracking the throttle open.

To put it into perspective, this is a car that will spin the wheels in 3rd gear, under hard acceleration IN THE DRY!

 

It's drivable, but not necessarily a particularly pleasant experience ;)

I use it in the winter, but I certainly pick my moments :)

Ok, check this out.

 

from Novemeber 2004 to Febuary 2005 there were 147 TVR crashes with 54 write off's.

 

I'd say it's lack of experiance more than anything else. A Supra/RX7 is the stepping stone from hot-hatchdom/junior rice to bigger things (like Corvettes & Porsches) & so are TVR's. The amount of people buying 4.0 Chimaeras as their first sports car is actually quite high. Look at your average 911/F355 owners profile on PH- it usually goes something like:

 

Warm Hatch

Hot Hatch

Impreza

M3/Supra/RX7

911/V8 Ferrari

 

Most 25 year olds can only dream of spending £40k on a car, where's a 45-50 year old it's a more realistic possibility, so with the more experiance comes less crashes.
