Newgendesign
Hi all, My white supra has developed a little bit of rust just at the lowest section of the rear glass area where the rubber seal is. Ive heard this is a common area for them to go and even though my car is in superb condition this is the bit thats letting it down. As its white its becoming more noticeable too. I have a quote to get this sorted but Ive been told from numerous sources that the glass needs to come out and I will need a new rubber seal to replace the current one. However some sources say that the glass is bonded in too which makes this a very difficult job in all. Has anyone on the forum removed their rear panel glass from the rear hatch before and can give me some pointers of what needs to be done and what part numbers I need? I want to get this done before winter as the poor car is suffering
Nic
You'll be best to remove the glass, as it'll probably need an area cutting out and welding if it is bubbling. A specialist windscreen place should be able to remove and replace easily enough. This is the rear seal you need to buy, I sell for £29 delivered, but I have non in stock, so you'd be best getting from your local dealer. 75573-14210 Toyota Rear Window Seal outer
Newgendesign
Its not bubbling too bad at all - just surface rust from what we've seen. Thats great news that its not bonded in solid- I will have to put an order in to the local Mr T - thanks for the part number
Newgendesign
Anyone else had to have this sorted on their car?
downimpact
No but i have the same problem It needs sorting soon too, how much is the body shop charging you to do this if you don't mind me asking
supRo
Yes the glass has to come out and then rebonded in with new rubber seal. Any good bodyshop should have the facilities or be able to get a specialist in to do this. When they take the glass out they will probably find more rust around the edges. Newgendesign
Ok - Will see how I get on after I get the new replacement seal delivered. I will then be able to quote the final amount.
michael
Anyone else had to have this sorted on their car? I have 2 hatches at the moment, one that looks OK from a J-Spec and my original which is going to get the rust sorted, I haven't got around to removing the glass and taking it in yet, need to make some room in the garage. Gaz6002
I'm having my whole rear hatch sprayed and glass removed etc, along with a sideskirt repaired and front bumper sprayed and fitted for £700. I was quoted £50 less to have the glass kept in the hatch and masked off I guess it depends who you go to though
rik
I'm in the same boat here. I bought a replacement hatch door with no glass, so need to get the glass removed from the old hatch and put into the new one. Cheers Nic, for the info on the seal I've also removed the seal around the screen as i'm painting my car. Don't spose you have any info on this, maybe i can just order them from ya
