SupraStar 3000
Don't ask me how or why but I may need to remove glue gunk and sticky residue from the outside of my lights. Whats best for plastic lights: - white spirit - thinners - turps thanks
supRo
Hi Ed, Not sure about what to use but perhaps do it with the Head lights off the car so there is no chance of damaging paint work! Ro

SupraStar 3000
Good idea mate. Although if I spend another weekend pissing around with lights I'm going to go insane. Its only a small area but I don't want to melt or smear the lights with the wrong chemical
Matt _Aero top_
I'd use white spirit mate as its not as harsh as thinners and wont eat into the plastic .

SupraStar 3000
LOL shhuuush Jamie!!! No mate. I put them on with body trim tape which I don't trust and want to use silicon seal. The tape just hasn't stuck down strong enough
hadyn
won't that scratch the plastic? maybe worh a go. thanks Just need elbow grease, will bring them up like new
rik
I wouldn't put any solvents onto plastic. I recon something that removes paint is not going to be very friendly to you plastic lenses (white spirit). WD40 is very good at removing sticky residue left from labels and stickers, tree sap, tar etc. Needs a bit of elbow grease mind. T-cut if fine to use also. I can vouch for that
SupraStar 3000
T-cut it is then. Thanks everyone.
AdzC
How about Auto Glym Intensive Tar Remover? Good for all surfaces. Makes short work of sticky residue

Whats best for plastic lights: - white spirit - thinners - turps thanks Noooooooo.... step away from the thinners t-cut is too harsh i find, it's ok if you're brinning up a set of dull lights, but yours are perfect. just wash them with soapy water then when it's dry just use some auto glyn resin pollish (red label) this will give it a coating and will keep them clean for ages Edit: just re read your thread, i have some stuff here for cleaning without screwing up plastic. i think i still have your address, i'll send you some
Seb
I was reading about an American product which has been specifically designed for this purpose. Not tried it, but it sounds really good - http://www.lensrestorer.com. Edited to add - actually no, it's not designed for that, it's for yellowed headlights. Didn't read the original post properly! SupraStar 3000
WOW, Cheers Jon. Don't worry though, as I'm anticipating a worst case scenario here. Your lights are still pefect and i'm not about to f*ck them up I'd rather gouge out my own eyeballs with a rusty fork This body work tape I have used was very aggressive so I'm sure It will leave sticky residue. RedM
crunchy of smooth? sunpat or tescos own? I know you are taking the p*ss but crunchy is better as the nuts have a soft abrasive effect. Make is not important.
