CardiffSupra
As most of you know i took a little bump yesterday, Was a bit of a downer on my Birthday and with crimbo coming up. The guy who i hit is my girlfriends neighbour and he has got a quote for £620 for fitting and spraying a new rear bumper. I'v been looking on ebay and you can pick them up for under £80, Its a mk4 Y reg astra. A mate of mine works for a body shop and told me they can do it for £400. Thats not bad, But i was hoping to get a 2nd hand bumper off ebay giving it to him and asking him to fit it, Thats what? 1hrs work? £50 What you guys think? Could there be a cheap way out? I refuse to pay £600 for a shitty Astra bumper! Thanks Gareth.
edd_t
tell the guy your mechanic mate can do it cheaper. just dont tell him its a 2nd hand bumper then just pay what you need to pay ya mate.
robbieg
tread carefuly as you hit him!!! it stinks but hes got the uper hand you could offer to sort it all out for him taking car to your mates!!! etc dont metion the second hand bumber:innocent:
CardiffSupra
Yeah thats what i was thinking, Its just finding the right one on ebay, I think the most expensive part is the spraying. But how he can justify 600 Welsh pounds i do not know. It wouldnt cost me 600 for a Supra bumper sprayed and fitted. Advice from body shops would be much appreciatded. martin_a
He's toddled off to Vauxhall and been told the price for literally a brand new one. Just say you'll get it fixed andif he's not happy then you'll speak to different people and leave it at that. No need to mention mates or anything. £600+ on a y plate astra? You are only fixing the bumper not buying the car! m.
Faye Brother
So, you've damaged this guys car with your careless driving and now want to palm him off with a second hand bumper? Do some research from a few Vauxhall dealers to ascertain whether that's the correct price or not and if it is, and assuming he won't go for the second hand bumper/mates spraying idea, then go through your insurance. CardiffSupra
Its not acctualy my mate spraying the thing, he works in a garage and can get discount. as long as its all done like new he shouldnt have any complaints where its done. All the damage is on his car is 2 5" cracks, can they be repaired?
Daston
Ask to see the quotes, if they are from a decent body shop they will list the cost of parts, estimated spray time charge, paint charge and fitting etc. I would not shell out any money without seeing somthing like this, the same way an insurance company wouldnt without seeing somthing like that. Also another thing to remember if some one had hit your supra would you be happy with second hand parts?
peter richards
if its cracks gareth and no bits missing its repairable
CardiffSupra
Nope i wouldnt be happy to have 2nd hand parts, But he's not going to know, Even new ones are around £80. Id say 4hrs labour = £200 +Bumper £100 max. +Paint ??? Where he got £600 i do not know. If he is happy with it being repaired i will have it done that way. Hope hes not a funny bugger. Peter Can any crack be repaired no matter how big? As far as i could see it was just 2 cracks. To fix that roughly £250?? Thanks all. PS. Does anyone here acctualy work for or own a body shop? RobSheffield
I would suggest having a chat with him, since it was an honest accident, explain that you can get it done super cheap, and if he will let you, you can do it better than any garage since you know a sprayer who will do the best job, not just a 'good job for the money'

Soonto_HAS_soop
Tell him that you want to pay the garage he wants to use directly and don't just give him cash. But if it was the other way around, everyone on here would be saying, get as much as you can. Why is it different now? You hit him, he could of requested your insurance details, and that would cost you more than that in the long run. Just take it on the chin, it was down to you after all.
