The names that you said are well known brands!!! what im saying is that people are too quick to dismiss an item because its 'cheap'. when inface its prob better made or of the same quality as the designer brands but without the label or price tag!!!

that is fine, but that is just your say so that they are as good or better than say some work, rays or compomotives

where is the evidence? Do they have a proven track record? Otherwise anyone buying them is just taking a gamble

and my advise on wheels and tyres is, don't take a gamble!

true - but iv had a lot of fast cars. and iv found that the cheaper wheels can actually be better than the more expensive ones!! and definatley better value for money. id rather pay £500 on a set of wheels that £2000. basically all an alloy is a a load of liquid alloy pourd in a mould of a particular design. simple as!! You cant justify 4 or even 8 times the amount!!

The fact is they are NOT better made or the same quality, you are not just paying for the brand name, you are paying for better quality wheels.

I have been to many different factories around Asia (where I live) and know that a factory in say the Philipines or Thailand, does not work to anywhere near the same quality standards, compared to a factory in Japan.

Some wheels are cheap, because they are banged out as quickly as possible, for minimum cost. Other wheels are expensive, because they are made to exacting standards, using multiple, time consuming processes, from better quality material.

I've got a simple way to settle this argument:

Hands up anyone who has bent a wheel. Tell us what brand it was and the per wheel cost.

I'll start:

Me - Anterra 309, ~£200

Chilli - 2 x Team Dynamics @ 125 ish each plus agro because one got an internal crack that led to slow punctures and damaged tyres that took quite a while to suss out!

Chilli - Compomotive, Work and OEM wheels never bent

Chilli - word of mouth of bent BKs and also cracked Speedlines (but these contain magnesium so are brittle anyway)

Sorry, no anecdotal evidence. In order to be fair, this needs to be direct personal experience.

I hit a Kerb very hard with my Weds wheels. So much so that a few garages thought that there is suspension damage or bent chassis. Turned out that it was just the camber that needed re-setting and the wheel only had cosmetic damage. I reckon a cheap alloy wheel would have cracked in half!

that's a bit harsh, anecdotal evidence is valid (so long as it can be trusted) because who is going to buy wheels that they've already heard are rubbish from hearing other peoples bad experience...

I had cheap shit wheels, white van man tried to drive into me and I ended up going up a kerb. The front wheel buckled. I doubt any vastly more expensive volk or rays wheel would have stood up to the same punishment.

I now have some nice new cheap wheels, they're round, light, and fit right. Not as light as volks and the like, but they are still lighter than stock, and nowhere near as expensive.

So your mate wrecked his car, and you both stripped off the uninsured parts before it was assessed. I'm guessing that means he REALLY wrecked his car, so bending the wheels is understandable and acceptable.

Well, you've already identified the issue: "so long as it can be trusted".

I really meant stuff like "my mate...", or "a bloke at the pub reckons his mums boyfriend blah blah blah..."
