Yes, it was all a myth. It's all to do with story telling and "come-uppance" which makes sense when you remember that Plasmas were around £30000 when they first appeared on the market, they quickly dropped to £15000, but the re-gassing story was a way for "ordinary" prople to get their own back on those with enough money to afford such luxuries.

In reality, anyone who did spend £30K or £15K soon got their come-uppance for real as the prices tumbled so rapidly.

Impressive Rob. How come you know so much about this?

Are you in the industry or should most people know that?

Doesn't a plasma have hundreds of thousands of hours before they are prone to problems?

I've got a 42" Panasonic VIESA and have had it for about 3 years ish.

My misses don't work so lets say on average it's on 12 hours a day.

Thats only 13140 hours in the last 3 years so it should be fine for years to come

I don't really know.

The PC, Tumble dryer, Power shower were all bought about the same time.

Neither of us are very energy efficient. i want to dry my clothes when they need it and have a shower when I want. If I wanna watch telly I will. god damn it.

Bloody eco fools. (Joke)

So yes the bill has gone up but how much the Plasma accounts for this I can't be sure

The guy in the shop said that Plasma'a are rated for 50,000 hours.

He didn't mention how energy efficient they are. I always thought that TV's in general used bugger all leccy.

Then again we have a house with spot lights in most rooms, we have gone form having about 12 bulbs to 30 ish.

Only just seen this thread, sorry... But if anyone else is looking, I bought my 32" Samsung LCD online from Komplett for £655.00 including delivery. They were really quick on delivery... Not seen any change in the leccy bill yet...

Oh. I'll have a look on that website to see if I could have got a better deal and depress myself.

You know you shouldn't but you just can't help it!!!:)

Don't worry, I couldn't find any 37" Panasonic Plasmas :) Some good deals on LCDs though...

Yeah, I couldn't either. There wasn't anything on there that had originally been on my shopping list for a telly.

Some good deals for LG's though.

I'm still happy with my purchase;)

I bought a 32" widescreen LCD today. Philips dolby doobry whatnot 870 euro which is just over 500 squidly. Nice lookin telly. The one I really liked in the store wasn't actually the Sony bravia which I had been led to beleive was the market leader but the latest philips telly. The ratio jobber makes a big difference the 6000:1 on the best philips was incredibly good quality.

I got my 42" Plasma 3 years ago now and its still excellent. Vivid colours, quick refresh. I also have 2 x 26" LCD, 32" Lcd and 37" Lcd of no more than 6 months old.

The Quality of the plasma is soo much better than the LCD. One of thems an LG, and the artifacting is terrible. I must admit the newer 37" LCD ( 2 days old) is better than the older ones, but only because the image is "blurred" ( less sharp ) to try and hide the artifacts.

You run an exclusive B&B? lol

I'm well chuffed with my new LCD. The last one I got was a behind the technology curve LG 27" unit a year ago. I never buy the latest gizmo as the price is never worth the ability to say look what I've got. In a year the latest behind the technology curve TV is a vaste improvement on my other one which now resides in my bedroom.
