Pot
Hi All, I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction with an issue I'm having... Yesterday, the car went in to a garage have the heater matrix flushed, a new thermostat, and an oil leak sorting out, the oil leak I'll complain about another time, but I have a strange problem today... Last night, the car was running fine, nice and fast, and she had a good 60 miles under her belt before I went to bed. She's been parked up outside all day until about 7pm tonight when I took her out... I noticed at tickover at the lights, a slight 'burble' if that's the best way to describe it, a slight miss (The engine was warm by then) butr only enough to notice if you were listening (I like the sound of my car)... Anyhow, after a while (1-2 miles), I noticed that when I was pulling off or gradually accelerating, the car felt like it was holding back, and sounded like it was running on 5, and when I floored it, it sounded smooth again, but there was nowhere near the power it should have (N/A Standard)... So, I've limped her home carefully, and looked under the bonnet, but can't see anything out of place (That's my extent of knowledge as far as these engines go)... The temperature's still staying at around half way (It's never been hotter), but one thing I have noticed is the smell of 'engine water', which I've never noticed before... So, if anyone can give any idea what's up, and what bad news I've got to prepare for, I'd appreciate it! Cheers
ardasaliah
sounds like a spark plug may have packed up. Mine did that when i needed new plugs- changed them and that sorted it
tbourner
Get plugs checked first, then move onto possible fuelling issues IMO.
Mike M
yeah, plugs and rotor arm / cap if it's not been done for a while. The distributers easier to check first.
Pot
Thanks Guys, If HalFrauds sell the parts, I'll get new plugs and leads tomorrow regardless (Does anyone know what part no's I should be looking for as it's a J-Spec?...) I'll post up the results once it's done, but please keep your ideas coming! I'm supposed to be using the car on Saturday to give a good friend a 'Classy Entrance' to her birthday party, so if it's a quick fix or not, it's good to know Cheers
ardasaliah
http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/spark_plugs/na/index.html The spark plug codes are on the top of the page http://www.spark-plugs.co.uk/pages/technical/ngkiridiumxref.htm They sell on this site
Konrad
http://www.opieoils.co.uk For standart N/A (like mine) I advise Iridium Power IK16 - they works for approx 30k miles and are the best one for their price. You can order online - site is safe, stuff is usually send next day to your doors if you are member of Supra forum
