MVP
Hi there, Have always wanted to get myself a supra, but being a youngun insurers always laughed and often even hung up! I went and bought myself a 318IS Coupe BMW and really miss JDM boost. I have owned a few S13 200sx and a Celica, but have been looking into Supra's more seriously recently, although several insurers still laugh at me! Hope to hear from you lot soon! Thorin
Welcome, if you become a member you will have access to our club insurance scheme which has saved a lot of members money. How old are you anyway? We've had quite a few ~21 year old owners but it's never going to be 318IS cheap.
MVP
Yeah im 21 also, and I understand it wont be 318IS cheap :-) nice to meet you.
Thorin
How much no claims do you have? I expect you'll be looking at up towards £2k
MVP
I had best keep dreaming as I only have 1 year, due to doing the whole 'on parents insurance' thing when i was at sixth form! Would an NA make much difference? Both times i have obtained quotes they have been rather painful!
stevie_b
Generally, an NA is about the same to insure as a JSpec TT. The best way to save on insurance is to buy a UK model, but then you'll probably trade off cheaper insurance against a higher purchase price. Swings and roundabouts I guess... PS there is a UK spec for sale here: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=84324

RobSheffield
I would perhaps think of a different car if i was you If you are going to struggle to insure it, then you will really struggle to maintain it and put fuel in it
Pig
I would perhaps think of a different car if i was you If you are going to struggle to insure it, then you will really struggle to maintain it and put fuel in it Very sound advice, i had one when i was a student. Its now in my garage awaiting an engine rebuild.
Terminator
I would perhaps think of a different car if i was you If you are going to struggle to insure it, then you will really struggle to maintain it and put fuel in it I agree with Rob, I would delay your purchase until you have a salaried income. Maintaining a high performance car on a tight budget is risky as you will have to cut corners. Unless you are a fairly competent diy mechanic, you will find it hard to keep it on the road. Finding someone who has the knowledge and skill to work on the car may on your budget may be difficult. There is an increasing number of so called performace car specialists that have not got a clue and make very basic mistakes.
Feakins
Are you serious??? Anything UNDER 1500ish I can afford... being a (hides) student... I would of thought so, I had a quote on a UK spec at 21 with 2 years no claims at 800ish but Jap spec about 1200. Your a student though which will add a few hundred. Like what has been previously said, I would not buy it until you can afford it, theres a lot more to it than purchase cost and insurance. MVP
The maintenance element is not a problem as my old man has his own garage, so all stuff will be done at cost parts, no labour (well a 6 pack for the guys), fuel again is no problem I used to have a stage 3 drift spec S13 which was running about 12MPG It is really just the insurance that is a killer. Its not so much being able to afford the insurance, its more a case of being a bit sensible about it. I really do appreciate all the sound advice! dangerous brain
Well if you can handle a drift spec S13 a TT supe won't be that big of a shock to you
MVP
Well it was more stage 2.5, but yeah the biggest difference is the overall size. I had the boost at only 0.9 bar and it was hitting about 266 and 255. Thing is, it was light as the entire rear was stripped out and roll caged. Very twity and about as comfortable as a three some with your mother in law! I have always loved the supras, they have real street presence that the old S13's just dont have (without exterior mods). I have driven a lot of the jap stuff, but the supra has always escaped me. I am possibly thinking of a R32 GT4 skyline, the 2litre turbo model, but a lot of the insurers are having problems finding them!

stevie_b
you sure about that? Just from what I've read on here from other people. I haven't tried the comparison for myself.
MVP
I will have a look around. Where would you suggest for insurance? In the past I have been with many, from Adrian Flux (anal flux it should be called) to Admiral. Currently with Tescos, but they wont quote on a supra
