AMG
This week the Soop has decided to take matters into its own hands! The revs increase from idle (600ish rpm) up to about 1200 rpm on its own. This lasts for about 10 seconds, then it drops again. I hav read that it could be something to do with a leaking pipes connected to the brake master cylinder but it does it while sat in traffic without touching the brakes. Does anyone have any idea what could cause this?

alan_blue
idle control valve perhaps?
MKIVDreamer
Check coolant levels - you may have had an air lock? I saw strange idling like that on mine when the coolant was too low after doing a rad change. Had a *big* air lock, once cleared (and topped up) idle problem vanished.
