BT rant and landline question.

We have a standing charge of about £30 but our phone calls per quarter only average out to about £5. Obviously we are paying for a service we barely use. The only reason we keep it is because we need a landline for our broadband.

Is there anything I can do to reduce the costs but without resorting to cable?

i believe Talk Talk now do land line rental at a cheaper rate than BT. dunno if there's others out there too or what the quality would be like but then again, it's the same line physically is it not??

Onetel use there own line and every thing all I get charged for from BT is my Broadband

I don't think that Onetel use their own line in the same way that Tesco don't get electricity to you through their own national grid. I'm assuming Onetel lease the line off BT and pass on a minimum charge.

Ok Onetel and Talk Talk DO NOT have there own line, they charge you for line rental but BT still looks after it and gets paid by Onetel or Talk Talk, the line rental is not worth changing as the hassle you will get when there is a fault is not worth it and I think the difference is £1.00 tops iirc. It is a severe pain as I am with Talk Talk and I have not had Broadband for 4 weeks Tomorrow and I have a fault with the line, but I get my line rental is with TT and they have to raise a fault with BT.

You have to stick with the line rental and moving from BT is going to save maybe £12 per annum and for the hassle like what I am going through it's not worth it.

Onetel was owned by British Gas and sold to Talk Talk so we still sell it British Gas customers.
