RedM
1. Have a read of this: http://chem.tufts.edu/tufts-ssa/Harris-NoGod.htm 2. Discuss. My favourite part; Of course, people of faith regularly assure one another that God is not responsible for human suffering. But how else can we understand the claim that God is both omniscient and omnipotent? There is no other way, and it is time for sane human beings to own up to this. This is the age-old problem of theodicy, of course, and we should consider it solved. If God exists, either He can do nothing to stop the most egregious calamities, or He does not care to. God, therefore, is either impotent or evil. Pious readers will now execute the following pirouette: God cannot be judged by merely human standards of morality. But, of course, human standards of morality are precisely what the faithful use to establish God’s goodness in the first place. And any God who could concern himself with something as trivial as gay marriage, or the name by which he is addressed in prayer, is not as inscrutable as all that. If He exists, the God of Abraham is not merely unworthy of the immensity of creation; he is unworthy even of man.

tbourner
They all just say "God works in mysterious ways!" which covers everything that happens - they don't need proof!! Unfortunately for them that means that god is willing to kill and torture in order to keep people faithful, similar to the comments on shiites that are thankful for being saved by 'god's mercy!! So basically; follow the commandments and teachings of this book I wrote, and you'll be rewarded. If you follow anyone elses teachings, dont follow the rules or in any way go against me you'll be sentenced to an eternity of torment!! Just to prove my point I'll make an example of someone who's done wrong. Sounds like Fascism to me. http://uplink.space.com/attachments/407643-can_of_worms.jpg

MVP
I think people are too self important nowadays to accept God existing and thus come up with stuff like that! Everyone has a right to believe in what they like. I dont thinkl they should be slated for it.

Religion causes more problems than its worth IMHO.

Angarak
Im not a religious person, but have no issues with people who believe in a religion as long as they don't preach to me. I don't need a religion to be a good person, I had my dads leather belt for that Out of curiousity, do bibles mention dinosaurs?....since we have scientific proof they existed? Matt H
lol we will all find out when we die i guess, i mean bibles etc arent there for no reason so i say he does exist Yeah they do exist, and its all about power and control. the foundation of every bible in my opinion has some fact about it, but the sad fact is, there just stories that have evolved from the dawn of time, through people re-writing. Like Jesus, i belive he existed, i belive he was a great man, who was kind hearted and had preached a way of living which all humanity should live by. Was he divine? was he the son of god? no, he was just someone who believed in god, who others turned into, over time, some divine person to add kick to their religion. I mean back in aztec times, man looked at the sky and say a ball of fire, which gave life to everything on earth, because we didnt know better, we praised it and called it "god", but now, we know its a big ball of hydrogen which is on fire, so we dont call that god anymore. A lack of inteligence created religion, a need to belong / understand and have hope keeps it alive F*cking hell thats good! im gona copy right that last sentence!!!
