Casino Royale - a review

Wow, what a breath of fresh air. I'm a Bond fan (except I dont count the Roger Moore shite), and I was really worried about the Daniel Craig thang. Great choice IMO....hard as nails, common as muck and pretty convincing as a government assassin, although less convincing as someone who could fit seamlessly into the world of millionaire playboys. Story bogged down in parts but overall I thought it was excellent. Cant say much more without spoiling it for others, but a harder, less foppish Bond is here and it works.

The full length Sony Bravia 'exploding paint' advert was absolutely brilliant too.

I've just come back from watching it. I'm a huge bond fan, and I loved it. It's much more nasty and harder than before. Bit of a dull bit towards the end, and the blatent Ford product placement bit that looked like a commercial was annoying, but still great. It's not at all bond-like, more like a very good normal thriller.

I won't spoil it but look out for the scene with him in a chair and a peice of rope!!! sore wouldn't quite describe it

Im guessing here.... but does he decide to do some skipping with the rope and upon deciding special agents arent really cut out for skipping, trips up, falls over and lands with his knackers firmly planted into the arm rest of a nearby chair ? :D

Talk about Placement advertising though,

Ford, Virgin amoungst others even Richard Branson if you are quick at noticing things.

Agree i was waiting for the classic "Big Bond explosive Finale"

You can certainly see its not a "Cubby" film but produced by his Daughter and someon else

But i think the new guy played the role quite well and very different from the previous bonds very much back to the Connery Bond, I think over the years they got a bit comical and unbeleivable with invisible cars etc,

This was raw action back to basics stuff ...

Worth going to see

I also went to see Bond tonight, thought it was a really good movie, he seems to fit well into the 21st century Bond role, with room to grow.

Much darker than previous Bond flicks which i like, although i thought Roger Moore was a great Bond too for the time very humourous, I view favourite Bonds as subjective.

I won't spoil it but ....... oooooohhh made me want to cross my legs.

Anyone who read the original Casino Royale will know the scene

Won't say anymore as it will spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it

Yep, best film since Golden Eye but then again....that's not difficult. PB was a GREAT Bond, but just had crap films to make (except the one mentioned above)

No carpets to be cleaned then?

Re teh Roger Moore comment, Moore made some cracking Bond films, LALD & TMWTGG were top notch hard Bond thrillers.

:) Aww, I dont want to go through life upsetting people, but c'mon, Sean Connery would kick Roger Moores ass. Thats the problem for me, he was a little too 'Yacht Club' and not enough 'Commando' to be the character I'd enjoyed imagining after reading the books.

Yeah, the later Moore stuff, Octopussy, View to a Kill etc, were getting a bit silly, but up to and including Moonraker were excellent Bond films. then again, Die Another Day and Tomorrow Never dies were a bit silly too.

Hmm, a list of best bonds, that'll start an argument.

Connery

Moore

Brosnan

Lazenby

Dalton.

Can't put Craig in yet as I've not seen the film, and a bit iffy about whether Moore is better than Brosnan.

Connery

Craig (pending second film)

Brosnan

Lazenby

Dalton = Moore

Blofeld best baddy

Think I'd have to agree based on the films they were given. I think Dalton could have been quite good but unfortunately he turned up when they were trying to make it more "real" so he ended up with two dreadful scripts to do. I also liked LALD, but Moonraker I hate with a passion. I normally kind of like to pretend it never happened, so that drags Moore right down for me. DAF was a bit ropey too, but the other Connery films make up for it.

woooo, i would go for Michelle Yeoh (Michelle Yeoh Choo-Kheng) as fave bond actress, because she doesn't have to fake her scenes..

she was awesome in CTHD, and Silver Hawk.

also she is probably the only female ever in bond where she could take out most of the cast in Real Life :D

others would be Caroline Munro (only reason to watch 3-2-1), Barbara Bach, Jane Seymour.

missus thought the bond was not good looking enough for the role, I thought his character and screen presence did not match the smooth sophisticated playboy debonaire world he works in.

Film much darker and up to the minute.

Plot was good, lacked a bit of punch at the end - and no real main bad guy - severe lack of gadgets and gizmos

Oh and the DBS rocked!

8/10
