scooby_doo_do
Well - he swapped his 03 astra gsi turbo for a 01 bug-eyed subaru sti last week and gave the chap £1200. Car's done 38k with not a great deal of serivce history - but was MOT'd recently. The car itself looks quite nice and seemed to be in reasonable condition from what i saw. So he's had the car a week and took it to today to get it serviced and checked over. The rang him up to tell him its previously been involved in a rather large knock to the front drivers side and rear and the repair work isn't that great. Theres welds all in the boot under the carpet and the bumper's held on by nothing - the front air con radiator's been pushed across.and there has been some more welding to the front wing/sideskirt area. There's also a rather large crack going down the bulkhead if you look behind the engine. The centre diff is out of line, the breaks squeak and the car shudders when you go round a corner. The steering wheel is also a bit on the piss. All in all he's not too happy, and after threating the chap with trading standards he's agreed on a full refund. I feel sorry for him, but at least he's getting his money back.

Tricky-Ricky
Did he not notice these things on a test drive? Yeah i would have thought that these would have alerted him to potential problems, it also pays to pull up the carpets and trim if possible, and look at the chassis with a torch. scooby_doo_do
Well, the juddering only started after he had it back home and he didn't notice it on the test drive - but i have to agree he was damn lucky to get his old car back and money. The only other problem was that he's always been after one, and this was the first one he saw so i thin kit was a case of WOW i like it, i want it, rather than a good check over. Plus the other fact is he's never driven one before or been in one. The HPI was clear - we ran 2 of these on the car. The chap insisted he did not know about the damage - yet it was MOT'd, so i don't beleive him. However he said he was going to get in contact with the chap who sold it to him and see whats going on. I keep trying to get him to get a supra - but he's quite an aggressive driver so i don't think it would suit him

johnnyknox
Even though you look like an arse, it's always a good idea to get down on the floor and have a good look under the car at the chassis, to see if all the lines are straight and nothing is on the piss. Shut lines on doors and body panels are also good things to check. You should go with him next time
Steviekid
Hope the Astras still in one piece when he gets it back!
