Paul
What's with all the media going on about this Farepak thing? So it's gone bust, people have lost out, end of story. What's getting me is all the chavs queing up on the news and parading their kids crying after telling them Christmas is cancelled! What sort of parent would do that, no need to tell the kids anything, sort it out or cut back. Worse things can happen to your family than not getting a bloody hamper And another thing, why do they 'save' with these companies? Why not put a few quid away and then go to a local supermarket and get stuff yourself? The government had better not pay anything out to help them as there are more deserving causes like the pensioners that have been done by corrupt schemes, to them it's real hardship rather than just not getting a pack of shortbreads and some shitty posh soup:) Well, got that off me chest, cheers:d Paul
Mike
Yeah, I keep thinking 'who gives a toss'.. and then I think, 'oh I'm watching GMTV again'.. and switch over..
DaveK
I actually wonder how something like that goes bust anyway. People pay money to you, you get to invest it / earn interest on it throughout the year and then you send them some crap hamper which is worth less than they paid you. How can you go bankrupt? Did the price of christmas puddings suddenly go up?
Paul
GMTV and ITN seem to be ramming down our throats until something gets done by either the government or large companies. If their parents aren't capable of putting a few quid away without diving down it for drink and ciggies then tough shit.........not my problem:D

Jake
I was saying the same thing at least a week ago. I don't understand how this trivial non-news story keeps getting in the media. It's been flogged to death for several weeks now.

It's been flogged to death for several weeks now. Amazing isn't it. They just want to create a happy ending to it but if it hasn't happened by now then let it go. The other thing was tonight on the news they said about all that hard earnt money that has gone into the scheme, well, from what I could see most of the people interviewed looked like right proper workshy bastards:d
Charlotte
Something to do with the overdraft of the company. Don't know the full details. It is ridiculous. But then I did see on the local news this morning a news feature about the fact that Ian Flemming wrote a lot of the Bond books in Kent. KaoriFan
i really have no idea why people would use them. surely it would be better to just invest the money each week/month into a building society/bank account and collect interest. not sure how they work, these hamper companies, but i thought you can only choose from the stuff in their catalogue and aren't they expensive compared to the items in the supermarkets/shops.. would rather save outside of that system and get free choice also what i find annoying is how the other supermarkets and government are bailing them out. i don't see why my weekly shop at Tesco should subsidise the Farepak situation. ah well, off to see if anyone wants to go to Himeji next year. hob
Surely they would go bust in somewhere like June?, I can never understand why places close just before the actual time of the whole year, you are likely to gain profit, just like a fireworks factory closing on 3rd Nov. colsoop
Expect a lot more hardship type stories like this we are in the christmas news season now. No doubt someone will have their christmas presents robbed and will appear on the news all upset, some kind soul will donate new present to them, then everyone can be happy again

No mate, I mean professional workshy bastards;) Not the sort like you and me that visit the dole office every now and then as a result of bosses making a balls up of things. Anyway, I invested my Giro into petrol to get me to my cash in hand jobs:D better than investing in a shite hamper.
terribleturner
I think you're all a bunch of scrooges. It's a scheme where people would pay money into so they could get more for their money at christmas. Not everyone can go out and spend money on a Supra or get a mortgage. Think of it as your bank that gave alot more intrest than you reciever from your savings, how would you feel if one day the bank turned round and said sorry we're closing shop and your savings are never coming back. Paul
It's a take on for thick people, let's face it. What sort of return do you get then? What's the interest promised on the investment, an extra can of beans?
paul_y3k
and what about the people who actually worked at farepak in swindon who have no idea if they're going to have a job or even get paid ? They're certainly not workshy, but they get hit, while the MD of farpak is at this moment on holiday ... good that eh
Charlotte
Was it on a ***NEWSFLASH***? That's mad. Actually yes. It was closely followed by this item:- "Enviromation" "Scientists in Alaska have found a gap between the horizon and the Earth. The gap, which is nine miles across, is believed to have been caused by recent storms which tore the horizon from its moorings. A team of civil engineers have set off to lash the horizon down with steel." Seriously though, I've never seen a more pointless story in all my life. These people who have lost their money probably wont have enough time in the day for another job to raise a grand for xmas.
