SilverSoop
Hi guys wonder if you can identify the problem, it only started happening a couple of days ago when some woman who braked sharpely for no reason, my warning light on the dash appeared, you know the warning light for when the handbrake is applied, like this one as shown on the title at the top it shows up. Now when i brake normally it doesnt do it, when i brake quite firmly though it shows up and stays on for around 10-ish seconds. For a minute i thought it was the brake fluid, it was lower than what i thought so i topped it up, tried it again, it appeared once more. My mate reckons its my pads and i think the same. Any ideas?? Ric
break fluid level. as mentioned in other threads even tho you just filled it up. under heavy braking it will flood to the front of the res and the sensor is quite sensative, put some more in
squiffy
pads may be low, causing fluid to be low. if you top it up you may have to take it back out when the pads run out

But you are right. Also check pad wear

Terminator
I cant see how it could be pads, as there are no electrical pad wear sensor s on the MKIV.
Jake
I cant see how it could be pads, as there are no electrical pad wear sensor s on the MKIV. Pads wear and get thinner = pistons protrude from the calliper more = fluid level drops
SilverSoop
Yeah it could be that, as thats the only thing i can think of. When i was coming back from work tonight, did a bit of steady braking-everything was ok but when i had to brake hard for traffic lights and the roundabout, it came on and stayed on for a short while. If it was fluid it would come on regardless, but pads i think could well be the culprit.
Homer
That really does sound like fluid level. Is it topped up to the top of the 'Max' level? The system is incredibly sensitive. As others said check for pad wear, if they're very low then that could well be the cause.
