Charlotte
It's not so much the desire to live anywhere in particular, it's just the desire NOT to live in Britain any longer, the whole place seems to be on a downward spiral. I know that feeling. But I suspect it's because I just work/sleep/work/sleep...go out/work/sleep.... I suspect everywhere you live has some horrible things wrong with it, just like there is here. I prefer the family values that my Polish relations have but then half their country is half built so....
DaveK
Yeah and bloody cold, mainly mountainous, and currently mobbed with orks and hobbits As a young person I would say that Canada is next on my list of places to go from here. Bear in mind I now work with people from 30 or more different countries. Canada's south east area comes up as a good place to live. Shame theres no aerospace industry there. I'm not sure that's entirely true. My g/f works for part of Bombadier (might have spelt that wrong) and their headquarters are in Montreal. We were over there about 6 weeks ago (partly because she has relatives there, partly to see Evanescence / Amy Lee live on stage) and we got shown around the production line etc. Was very cool seeing planes put together. I know what you're saying, and you are probably right but everything you see in the news at the moment and the plans the government seem to have for the 'average' person are truly shocking. I don't really want to be around when it all goes tits up so to speak.

The UK always been on a downward spiral! But what's is it exactly that pisses you off so much, perhaps you'll find the same problems elsewhere? Besides, the more you live in a place, the more you see the bad bits. Speak to people in the place you want to live, whether it's NZ or Oz or Canada and ask them TRUTHFULLY to tell you how it is, maybe they will tell you bad stuff that you hadn't considered eg guns being commonplace, lots of red tape/beaurocracy before you can do anything, hostility to immigrants (of which you will be one). I suppose the biggest thing is the current backwards attitude of the government, trying to solve all problems by upping taxes instead of actually sorting the cause of the problems out first. Also having had first-hand experience with the police force being generally crap (no offence to anyone on here) not their fault personally i suppose. Then you have "Chav culture" But anyway, im still asking for destinations. Where would you go?
Bob
Plus, I hate insects so I'd be fooked. Interesting fact (maybe) - New Zealand has almost no bugs. Their import regulations are dead stringent too; you cannot import any wooden furniture that doesn't come with a certifcate of disinfection from someone like Rentokil. Similarly, imported cars have to fully steam cleaned, nside and out and supplied with cleaning certificates. All shoes have to be steam cleaned too. hogmaw
But anyway, im still asking for destinations. Where would you go? OK, having travelled to over 40 countries around the world, take your pick out of these, in no order: Spain (+ weather, cheap, - language) Southern France (+ food, scenary, - language, and some people don't like French people, no idea why ) Australia (+ everything, - distance, 48 hours on a plane there and back no thanks:blink: ) Southern Germany (+ autobahn:eyebrows:, - language, but many people sprechen Deutsch. Believe it or not most Germans are OK tho again for some reason many people are prejudiced against them) Austria, Switzerland (+ quality of life, - language again) Canada (+ quality of life, - bloody cold winters, distance from home) anyway what countries are you thinking of so far? RedM
My preference however would be Victoria or Vancouver in BC in Canada. Forgot that one. Vancouver is amazing. I really don't see the attraction of moving to Oz/New Zealand. For me, personally, that would be it's attraction.
Nick
I've traveled around New Zealand, and been to a few places in OZ including Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, and I can see no reason at all to stay in the UK if you have the opportunity to move. I also have a number of friends, and friends of friends that have emigrated, and other than the missus missing her family, it's all good. No country is without it's problems, but on balance the quality of life is so much better. A mate of mine lives in Canada too, and loves it. I couldn't wait to leave Holland. The tax, bureaucracy and attitude of people at work got too much in the end. The Middle East? Not for me. I'm looking to stay in Japan as long as possible, without a doubt the best country I've lived and worked in. Sure there's things that drive me crazy, the language is tricky to learn, and many things here are just plain odd, but I love the place. I've always liked being submerged in a completely different culture though, and outside of Tokyo foreigners are few and far between.
