DannyW
Me and the bread knife have been mulling over the idea of fleeing this hell-hole we call Britain for a while know but we are stuck on where to actually go. Any recomendations? Oh, can you export cars to Australia?
Class One
Australia or New Zealand. Both are accepting applications from UK citizens, especially if you have a trade. I would go to either at the drop of a hat, but my wifes' umbilical cord to her family won't stretch that far!
terribleturner
I've always wanted to move to Aus but they are stricked with the car regulations i belive.

I would go to either at the drop of a hat, but my wifes' umbilical cord to her family won't stretch that far! The family is the only worry i have, but they'll get over it "She" will have the qualifications (Certified accountant and chartered tax advisor). Which should get our application accepted, but it's all 5 or so years in the future anyway. Just in the planning stage for now. Anyone know the car import rulings for Australia/New zealand? RedM
New Zealand and then Australia. Tasmania was featured on TV tonight but that looks a bit remote. I'm suffering the other half's family umbilical cord too!
Darren-K
id never go to new zealand., it looks nice on Tv but is a massive place - far less hospitable than you would believe and also apparently - there are lots of gangs out there too. Class One
Darren there are gangs everywhere the world over. NZ has one of the lowest crime rates per capita in the world. A population of just over 3 million in a country the size of the UK spread over two islands. Property prices are soo cheap that £75k will buy a nice 4/5 bedroomed house with about 1/2 - 1 acre of land. If I'd had the opportunity to transfer out there before I was diagnosed with my illness I would have gone, no questions asked. Now it's not possible. Branners
I felt NZ was a little too much like the UK when I was there. I stayed in Auckland and it was nice enough but wouldnt draw me there. I did find Melbourne in Aus to be really nice, laid back with lost of nice people and overall a great city. My preference however would be Victoria or Vancouver in BC in Canada. Its got all the benefits of America without the americans. Easy access to great outdoors areas but also lots of big citys. Quick nip across the border to buy cheap goods and generally a nice place to be. If my wife would let me we would have emmigrated out there by now. They all speak English, hate the Germans and french just like us and as a foreigner you get to pay less tax for 10 years They make the Jocks look like spendthrifts at time though PS I now live here and driving on the wrong side aint as bad as its cracked up to be. Bob
Me and the missus are aiming at relocating to New Zealand in 2008 They're crying out for a lot of trades (we're both Civil Engineers, which ranks REALLY highly in the 'must have' trades section ) We've spoken to a lot of people that have relocated there and the quality of life, apparently, is a hell of a lot better than over here. Last chap we spoke to had been terrified when he came across a large gang of Mauri youths in teh street one day - believing he was about to be accosted he carried on as there was no way back. The guys said hello, then apologised for being in the way!!! Ideally would like to live on the South Island - more picturesque, less people, etc. but unfortunately the majority of work is around the Auckland areas and throughout the Northern Island. Still, a much better quality of life then the UK, that's for sure :edit: Bizarrely, one of the trades they are also desperate for, is "Thai Chefs". Time for a career change, maybe
dazla
If i ever move. Then it would be to Bergen in Norway as they dont sell furniture there and as I'm a leather upholsterer I'd be rolling in cash.
charlton
go to DUBAI its crazy out there! they speak English, its always hot (xmas last year was 33C when I was there) its tax free, every other car is a supercar, no drunk people wanting a fight - shall I carry on? but then there roads aren't so good with sign and warnings in places, the drivers are crazy too - our taxi driver ran a traffic cone over and shrugged ooops - WTF??? Bob
Just to add, there's a fairly decent drag racing scene in New Zealand as well I'll be taking THe Supra with me of course - step-brother works for an exporting company and reckons around £500 to transport the car over there

dangerous brain
Yeah and bloody cold, mainly mountainous, and currently mobbed with orks and hobbits As a young person I would say that Canada is next on my list of places to go from here. Bear in mind I now work with people from 30 or more different countries. Canada's south east area comes up as a good place to live. Shame theres no aerospace industry there. Charlotte
I really don't see the attraction of moving to Oz/New Zealand. I mean, admittedly I've never been but I have no real desire to really. New Zealand looks great on the Lord of the Rings but it's supposedly a lot like Britain. I'd much rather live somewhere in Europe like Spain. I'd love to live in New York too but I think maybe that's because I want to be SJP. Plus, I hate insects so I'd be fooked. It's not so much the desire to live anywhere in particular, it's just the desire NOT to live in Britain any longer, the whole place seems to be on a downward spiral.
