DaveK
hmmmmm. still not cheap to fix if it goes wrong though are they? (don't know much about them) what sort of mpg do you get out of one? Pajero - Shit. Had one a few years ago - on a diesel SWB you are lucky to get 25mpg, and since diesel costs more than petrol it's hardly economical. Oh - and something so high up felt damn unsafe to me every time I went around a corner. I've just sold my Focus hatchback. Pretty boring, but very cheap to run / fix. Nathman
How about a Saab 95 estate. A friend of mine has had one from new, he's done 260,000 miles in it and the only non wear and tear item he has had to replace was the starter motor. I had an interesting conversation with a Saab fanatic the other day and apparently, Saab engines are built to take 1000 BHP and then deliberately scaled down power wise, thats why they last so long! He also reckoned he could turn his Saab aero from 330 to 480 brake with the fitting of a £400 ECU:blink: Didn't know whether to believe him or not. Ian W
t5 ones are awsome....but not sure it would be within your budget that's what i thought am happy (relatively) with the Saab 9-5 but would need to be a diesel to get the economy i need. Supragal
a bit boxy for me, although i like the Merc C-class bizarrely (sp?). perhaps i'm just a bit of a snob i don't mind the V70's so much to be honest, just know i'd want a T5 which is more money and more money if it goes wrong too. hmmmmm T5 R you mean Sorry thought you wanted diesel... if you want petrol you might get a T5 for that, might be an 850 though and they are not pretty. Seriously, V70's are nice cars. 850's are boxy I'll give you that but a V70 with the tail spoiler and alloys are really nice looking. Well I think so. martin_a
Pug diesel is a top motor, rest of the car... basically electrical issues like most french motors (my sis had a laguna brand new for her work car and it was totally screwed up, wouldn't touch one) and i know a number of 206 owners that have had problems. 306 seems to be the best of the bunch but you should be fine with a saab, should have all the toys too. m. Robbie
Saab 9-5 2.3 t Fast but potentially expensive if they go wrong. Expensive to insure and not that great on petrol. The up side is they are very very comfortable, offer bags of space and cruise the motorways with ease. I was seriously thinking of a second hand saab estate for a while as a third car! The other thing going for them is their lack of status, a bit like the golf if you know wahat I mean.

martin_a
The reno engine was fine, the issue was with the electrics. The service lights on the laguna were always on, event he garage couldn't make it turn off. Then it decided the ABS wasn't working even though it was (again Reno dealer couldn't fix) and then i think the passenger window stopped going up and down. Saab has an air of cool i think. Noty a status car but interesting to people none the least. Given the sales in their home market and the weather conditions they can't be that bad. Golf is ver slow and heavy, you'd be better off with a Seat Ibiza/Leon or a Focus TDCI but they are probably a bit high cost for what you want. m.
