how_supra
I did an undergraduate placement. There are hundreds of companies looking. I applied all year though, and eventually got offered a job at Renault UK in May of my second year. Lots of interview practice [i was rubbish at first], developed my CV along the way, really helped me in hindsight, I am pretty comfortable in interview situations now, and my cv is good. I did Business Studies, and if I didn't get a job I failed the course, which was pretty harsh I would look beyond the list your university has provided as you know everyone on your course is going to be trying to get those. It depends what you want out of it though, is it IT or just general experience? But if I was you I would apply everywhere, at the very least you'll get some interview practice in. They are all pretty hard core as well, 1 or 2 days full on assessment centres, tests, presentations and panel interviews i went through. Good luck. bsdmr2
What uni are you at MK? I did a placement last year as part of my Accounting and Financial Management course, there are 100's of options out there. Lots of companies advertised at uni and then i also sent off seperate letters to companies that i was interested in working for. Think who you'd like to work for and then get in contact with them to see what they could offer.
Guest mk47
I know what you mean when you say interview practise and perfecting my CV.. Anyhow im at uni just now and spoke to the woman in the careers office, whom i handed my cv into 3 weeks ago for checking and went back today for feedback, and she informs me that theyve misplaced it and want me to hand a new copy in. A couple of jobs which i want to apply for deadline is friday 17th so thats really p*ssed me off as theyre gonna take ages to do it. Was wondering if i upload my cv on here later and someone can give me a few tips? In interviews im pretty confident as i feel comfortable to speak around anyone. Yeah its pretty much the same, if i dont find a placement then i just have to take a year out and do whatever, and cant come back for my final year - just end the course with a hnd at the end of summer 2007. i dont want to leave with a hnd because if i do it i wanted to do it properly, the whole reason im at uni really as i had a very good job before i started and left it for this. Im not fussed that it has to be IT related, theres a job advertised for vauxhall and some other cummins co which make engines etc so anything is possible really - judging by the adverts they put they dont need course specific applicants. Im looking to do just that, its just that some companies ive looked at i.e. hsbc/british airways etc actually advertise placement vacancies so just wondering that those who dont wouldnt be interested? which is why i need an extra good cv to apply at those sorts of places i guess. What uni did you go to? also where in e/mids you from?

Quite like it up here though so thinking of sticking round after!
dilocruzy
I did my placement with Toyota GB in their Burgh Heath HQ. Great experience overall however, my advice would be to go for a company which offers the possibility to hire you post-placement. Dan
