edd_t
Contacts you will need a PAB - Personal Address book. if you export properly contacts should go into a pst fine. or is that only with normal Outlook and not express?
ivan
No need to export. Copy the Outlook Express directory from inside the users profile. (If it's XP it'll be in \Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{long string here}\Microsoft\) Paste it somwhere on the new PC and import it into OE. Do the same with the .PAB file. Jive
Does anyone know how to combine .. ah let me start again. I had my Outlook Express setup on my main computer which has been working fine for years until about 3 months ago, network basically knackered. All emails stopped going into the Outlook account. Just before christmas I borrowed a laptop from work and configured it to download my emails onto that local account. Now I have a new pc (main computer) and want to combine the two accounts (main pc and laptop) onto the new pc and carry on as if nothing has happened. Anyone know if this is possible? I'm gonna try the link posted earlier in this thread and see if it'll help but I don't hold out much hope with these things!
Scott
The post above you explained it. Just copy those files "Inbox.dbx" or something like that into the same folder on your laptop and your done. Scott =op
Jive
Ok, done what was suggested in the above post and have managed to get everything from my main (old) pc onto my new pc, so that's a great start Now if I do the same and export from the laptop in the same way, will this import and merge the information or will it try and overwrite the first import? Thanks for the help so far
Scott
Ok to import the ones from the laptop you will have to do it differently. Don't copy over the inbox files instead just copy the emails to a folder, copy them to the comp you want them on and then copy them directly into the outlook inbox window. Scott =op Cheers Scott, think I know exactly what you mean so will give it a go as soon as I can lay my hands on the laptop, which has now been lent to someone else at work Hopefully tomorrow it will be sorted, if not you'll hear from me
Scott
Basically do it like this. Laptop "A" is the one with the emails Laptop "B" is the one you want the emails on that has the desktop ones already copied. Take "A" and open outlook to show the emails you want to keep. Make a Folder on the desktop called "Emails" and open it even though its empty. In the Inbox or whatever folder you want to copy from select the emails. Either all of them using CTRL-A or select them seperately using CTRL and the left mouse button. While holding in CTRL drag them down to the "Emails" folder on the Taskbar. This will open up the emails folder and you can let go of the left mouse button to copy them into that folder. The rest is easy Scott =op
ivan
No need Scot. If you've already imported one set of emails (copied the folders over), all you need to do is copy the Outllok Express folders over from the second PC into a different location (My Documents or somewhere). Then just open OE and import the new emails.
Scott
Importing cocked mine up a while ago. Replacing the files worked great but the import went funny. Same when exporting. He can give it a go though, might just have been my bad luck. It was during Windows ME afterall lol. Hopefully should be a little better now Scott =op
Jive
Resurrection part II Ok, mates computer died the other day, managed to get his hard drive out and chain it into an old computer I had ligging around, I've found all of the emails in the default directory and have copied those onto his new computer. He was using Outlook Express but has now upgraded to Outlook 2003 - when I go to import the files that I managed to save off of his HD Outlook throws a paddy and says it can't see any of the files Anyone know if you can migrate the old info like this or am I going to be chasing a lost cause? Jive
Not sure whether the repair tool will be much help as that's looking for .pst files to repair and he's got none, only .dbx files
