mr lover
Went there today with my 10 year old daughter only to be told she is slightly long sighted and needs glasses, she was devastated and cried for a good 10 minutes. Once she had calmed down I let here pick any frame/style she wanted ( thinking they were free, NOT) Anyway I am nearly 2 tanks of fuel down but she is happy bless her. She is a pretty little thing and the glasses actually suit her, now she is worried about school tomorrow and if anyone take the mick god help them Thanks for listening

Class One
Now get a second opinion. Specsavers are notorios for telling you that you need glasses when you don't.
Pig
Finger crossed for her. I hope she will bo ok. Now get a second opinion. Specsavers are notorios for telling you that you need glasses when you don't. didnt know that!
Ian W
make sure she wears them mate. my bro had a problem with his eyes when he was young and refused to wear glasses. now he's virtually blind in one eye so much so that it's irreversible even with laser surgery. Was she having any symptoms?
jaymdee
Gary, I had to get glasses when I was 12 and was 'mortified' but nobody really made anything of it at school. So many people wear them now (is this to do with Class One's post?) that it's not an issue.
DannyW
I'm still concious about wearing glasses now at the age of 24, i only wear them for driving and watching TV, i don't wear them at work and never wore them at school (even though i should have) i honestly think my education suffered as a result of not being able to see what was written on the blackboard etc. I hate people seeing me wearing them which is a bit sad really, i should probably just try and get over it. Make sure she wears them as it's for her own good, i wish someone had made me wear mine when i was young.

Kopite
have to pay for designer frames apparently, she didn't like the free ones, she has been having headaches reading and using computer every now and then. Sound right? Depends on her Rx mate. Long sightedness can cause headaches with VDUs, the intensity and speed pf onset is dependent on the prescription, depends on other things too - did they test her Near Point Convergence (i.e. how well her eyes pull together / go cross eyed)? That's the main cause of headaches and near blur with kids who don't have significant prescriptions. Either that or she's moaning about nothing

Amblyopic, more common than people think! At 10 though it's not really an issue, it's more to do with a weaker eye / squint / congenital problem when a kid's younger. 10 is a bit too late even if Mr Lover's daughter had a lazy eye. Sabrina (How_Supra) is amblyopic, she's got right proper dodgy peepers!

Kopite
right eye sph +0.75 left eye sph +1.25 cyl -0.25 axis 160.0 that was all i had Hmm not excessive but enough to give her a headache after a good hour on a computer. If she doesn't wanna wear them, get her to keep a good working distance from whatever she's looking at, whether it be a VDU or a book. Yeah it's upto about 9 that amblyopia can be treated with patching and specs (sometimes surgery in the case of a big squint). After that.... you be fucked
markymark
My 5 year old son has been wearing glasses for over 2 years. It was really tough on us all when we found out he needed them, especially as none of us need glasses - the hard thing is that his problem isn't reversable so he will probably have to wear them for years to come. He doesn't mind them - but it is so damn hard with kids - they are CONSTANTLY covered in fingerprints, they fall down his nose, he breaks them loads.. but then his perk is that he thinks he's Harry Potter! She'll be fine once she gets used to them - just make sure you push her to wear them as, like others have said, it can cause major problems in the future if they don't. Jake
Now get a second opinion. Specsavers are notorios for telling you that you need glasses when you don't. Conning bastards they are. I'd get an independent test done (in fact I did) I mean, doesn't Kopite work for SpecSavers? What more could you need to know?

In all seriousness, all Speccies are different as they're all independent businesses being Joint Venture Franchises

They can do Wavefront but your vision wouldn't be as good as you'd be used to if you've been wearing specs
