Block and Pistons for UK TT

This is a quick request - my car's engine is curently being stripped, checked and, where needed, bits replaced! My chap phoned today and says I now need block with pistons etc as 4 of the 6 pistons have knackered/worn rings - hence my lovely smoking problem! So - anybody out there know of best place (got a price from Steve Manley for the whole assembly - brand new) or somebody who might have this? Cheers in advance. Would need this very quickly as well.

I have new pistons and rods and rings here, but no spare blocks, won't the block hone? Or rebore and use ovesrize pistons and rings?

Very possibly but looking at cost of stripping down, rebore and new pistons/rings, getting a new short motor might prove to be as cost effective and at least its guaranteed (well, as much as anything can be!) by Toyota! Which route would you suggest in terms of a cost/time/hassle scenario?

So it turned out your piston rings are knackered then mate?

Mine smoked like yours, on idling, but i put it down to really knackered turbo oil seals.

mmm, i wonder ... :(

Yep, I had a horrible sneaky feeling it was this. There's never been any boost problems only an ever gradual build up of smoke on tickover. However, the tubbies have been refurbed, the injectors cleaned, oil filter moved, new pads at the front, new pipes here and there, new stem seals ready to go in, reskimmed head, new shims etc etc etc plus now, new short motor needed!

They're the same, aren't they? After all, the US spec ones MVP sell are regularly fitted in J-specs.

I'd want £350 for it. Plus delivery

Can I ask a few questions?

Where has the block come from? Crashed car? If so, front ender or just from a rebuild? Why was the engine slit in the first place? What condition was the engine in prior te being removed? Was it running before it was removed? Any smoking? Any more info greatly appreciated.

Im hoping i dont have the same problem with mine then.

It used to smoke a bit, every now and again on tickover, after a bit of driving.

I then took the cat off, and it was terrible, smoked all the time, and ALOT of it.

Someone (Chris Wilson on here i think) diagnosed it, online, as the turbo seals, so i put the cat back on and it cured the problem, it only smoked now and again on tickover after driving, like it used to.

It was like that until i took it off the road to change from twins, to a single, i hope it doesnt smoke like fook when i start it up :( You've got me worried now!

Don't panic mate - its only money!!! I was hoping mine was only tubby seals but alas the bill grows day by day! How much can I get for a kidney and a 14 year old son??!!

I know mate, but ive just spent about 3.5k on mine now. Plus ive been off work ill for the last 2months, without sickpay, so have lost over 4k in pay, for funnily enough, kidney problems, so i cant sell one of mine, as its the only one working properly at the moment  ;) so needless to say, im a lil low on fundies.

I may give you some £ for your kindey though.. :D
