Chris Wilson
I have finally just about finished the new aviary for the eagle owls, and they went into their new home yesterday. It meant I could pick up the kookaburras from their temporary home with a friend of mine, who kindly looked after tham whilst the "2 week build" (yeah, eight, sorry Will....paying work kinda slowed things down) of the owl aviary was underway, and the owls had to be kept in a smaller aviary meant for the kookas' Only downsides of the new aviary so far is utter panic whilst the local wild bird population mumble about bloody dangerous foreigners moving into the area, the vacation of some nesting boxes nearby, and the fact they now have room to swoop at you, silently and speedily when working in there. It's nice to see them being able to fly around properly, and I hope to entice rats and mice with grain at night, to let them hunt for food fairly naturally, although they seem to have an eye on next doors cats more than rats right now Pics taken today at: http://gatesgarth.com/nov_pics/nov_pics.html The black dogs with full tails are the pups we kept from the litter 6 months ago, they are nearly as big as their mum and dad (docked) already, I suspect the 2 dog pups will be quite big lads in the end. The fawn dog with black mask is our rescue kangal dog pup, also 6 months. I tried to get a recording of the kookas' in full song, but the technology defeated me. So much more to do, and Christmas is nearly here again

Chris Wilson
Is that a kookaburra I see? The one that looks like a big Kingfisher They are a pair of kookaburras, yes. They look like big kingfishers because they are the largest member of the kingfisher family They will catch fish, but not dive for them, we feed them on day old chicks and some mice. SupraStar 3000
I bet your garden sounds like the film set to Apocalypse Now or Indiana Jones with that thing barking away! Very smart. One day I'd like to get my car serviced by you just to see your animals
SteveR
One day I'd like to get my car serviced by you just to see your animals I did, but chickened out of asking to see the animals! some big feckers in there, might kill me which would suck double-time as I'd have just paid for the Supra to be serviced Seriously though, nice pets Chris, it's cool to read about them but also to see (from the photos and your posts) so clearly that they've gone to an excellent home. Pete
managed it now Those Kookas sound amazing! Close your eyes you can think you're in deepest Australian jungles, not Shropshire. Vicki thought they were monkeys - I guess there's the jungle connection. They make you smile don't they?
