Ark
Chaps, I bought three HID kits from the VisionBulbs group buy: 2 x 9005, 1 x H3. I'm fully prepared to file down the lugs for the dipped beam - that's fine. What I do need advise on however: 1: Where have people mounted 3 ballasts kits? Who has fitted all three (Gamer)? 2: The fog lamp has a water-tight cap...can this be re-fitted or does this become redundant? 3: With 3 kits, but only 2 variants, I got 3 different relay looms (see pics)... the right-hand one has a female socket to go straight onto the loom, so that's cool. The middle one is supposed to be identical but isn't. Where can I get a socket I can crimp on there? Thanks Chris

Thanks Chris I do have HID's in all three of my lights, the ballasts are mounted in various locations and it is different for my car as I have extra room due to having a single and my battery in the boot. I have one ballast under my intake pipe directly below my BOV and two more under my headlight (Drivers). The other ballasts are mounted next to my fuse-box and another under the headlight (Passenger).
Ark
Thanks for the input so far guys. For anyone interested, I found this guy on ebay who makes the loom adaptor I think I need for point 3 above: 9006 HB4 MALE Headlight connector wiring harness (HID) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/9006-HB4-MALE-Headlight-connector-wiring-harness-HID_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33710QQihZ019QQitemZ8075524571 But I might just try brutalising an old pair of 9006 bulbs from my last car, using a dremel and a soldering iron... ChrisSZ
You putting HID's in the main beams too? Not something I'd want to do as you won't find the flash particularly effective!! HIDs take a few seconds to get warmed up and light up properly - no good if you want to flash someone

HIDs take a few seconds to get warmed up and light up properly - no good if you want to flash someone You get a quick initial flash which is enough to signal someone, then they drop down for a second or two until returning to full whack. ivan
I'm seriously thinking about main bean HIDs too. The normal ones just look embarrasing next to the dipped HIDs.

Ark
I use the main beam a lot - about 20 miles of my daily commute is down unlit lanes - little traffic, but lots of animals so visibility is a very good thing or I'd be forever repairing my bodywork. That's part of why I bought the upgrade.
imi
sorry to open a new thread but I need some help with the installation of a HID kit for the fogs. The set is the ones that you get from ebay, H3, 6K ratings. Question is "The fog lamp has a water-tight cap...can this be re-fitted or does this become redundant?" How do you fit the fog light HID bulb cause the connector and holder for the bulb are completely different and the water-tight cap of the light simply would fit? This kit that I bought from a fellow member has been lying about for the past 6-7 months now and I really want to get to the bottom of this. Lukeyboy2k
"The fog lamp has a water-tight cap...can this be re-fitted or does this become redundant?" When I did mine the I couldn't quite get the cap back on. I'm sure it could be done with a bit of fabrication, but I just wrapped centrifuge tape around the gap. Over a year later all still appears well. How do you fit the fog light HID bulb cause the connector and holder for the bulb are completely different and the water-tight cap of the light simply would fit? From memory I think you may have to take the spade connectors from the cap and plug them into the new bulb holders - you may damage the cap trying to remove the connectors. hth. First I gutted the cap so there were no fixings in the way. Then I opened out the hole that the wires originally went through, using a dremmel. Then I cut the wires for the HID bulbs (they had fancy connectors on them - too big for the hole, to fancy to cut off and replace, so it's easier to cut the wire, then solder it back together. Poke the wires through and apply some silicone sealant, solder the connector wires back on and Bob's a distant relative. Oh, and make sure you leave enough slack on both sides of the hole so you can get to the bulb holder inside the light.
imi
many thx for that ark....i think i have bigger problems with the kit, electrician tried to power test the bulbs, neither of them work

imi
how did he try? on a car battery? not sure, he has a lot of experience fitting hid kits.....fitted a set to my brothers car a few weeks back, albeit not this exact one. any gotchas about this kit? Ark
Not sure about the specific kit - post some pictures of the parts you have. I assume you can't swap the connections between the new kit and any previous one you have? It could be the bulbs, or more likely the ballasts (I had one dead ballast, out of the three kits I installed)

I am also interested in getting the H3 HID kit for the fogs but a bit concerned about the rubber cap that seals the fogs. Is drilling a hole the only way around this? Really do not want to damage anything. Has anyone done this and happen to have some pics for reference? Thank you.
