Guest gzaerojon
a friend of mine whats his wheels refurbing, but he has been told they are pollished steel?? i never thought wheels could be done in steel. so i tested it with a strong magnet and it just about attracts, but now i'm thinking they could be chromed. whats the best plan of action for doing these? does anyone know these wheels and what they are made of? pics bellow
Homer
You're right, they're chromed. I think Envy have a place that can re-chrome wheels, probably Ibrar (Pro Alloys) too.

Ric
try some chrome cleaner first. i had marks like that on my old wheels and they come of with some very hard rubbing of autosol.

Guest gzaerojon
thanks for the ideas guys i just had a thought, how about stripping them down and getting the rims pollished back to the bare alloy? my racing harts are pollished alloy and they're fine as long as i keep them clean and buffed i'm sure they'll look better than they do now
Bobbeh
You'll be lucky to find somewhere that works with them being 3 piece alloys they're a PITA to work on. Secondjump was/is in the process of refurbing his, might be worth asking how he got on. I tried removing the kerbing on mine.. got it rubbed out but also noticed the chrome and laquer come off in the process over the bits I tidied up, you can polish the metal underneath but it wont shine like the chrome did. Ideally you just want to replace the outer lip.. but I dont think Blitz sell these separately. Do us a favour and properly clean them up using some break dust remover then get back so we can see what the real damage is, they just look dirty. Guest gzaerojon
i'll give them a good clean and post up some more pics, the brown spots shown look like rust spots so i'm not sure i'll be able to shift them i'll give it a try though
Ric
the camera wasnt focusing on the kerb marks more the rusty coloured stuff.
M4RK RZ
hiya mate, Looks like they are as you say chormed - the thing is you can polish them up and the rust will go but because it has broken through the upper chrome layer it will come straight back. Loads of poilshing forever or get them polished up and dipped again im afraid. Tell him to clean the brake dust off properly next time !! Bobbeh
Looks more like brake dust to me.. just need some strong cleaner on there and you should shift most of the marks, I dont think they're steel either... I'm thought they were aluminium lips. I'm even more convinced of this as where my wheels have been rubbed down there is no rust at all.
