garetheves
Just browsing the Bay in search of a new fish tank and came accross this beauty. Never seen a setup quite like this. Over £4k spent on it. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Stunning-6x2x2ft-Reef-Tank_W0QQitemZ160048352130QQihZ006QQcategoryZ20755QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

SupraStar 3000
look like a death trap! All the water and all those plugs Nice display though. Wouldn't need a TV with that set-up.
Rayman
Stunning, would take some care tho they would, a lot harder to keep marine fish!
simonas
I'd love a marine set up like that. I've got a few tanks but have never taken the leap to marine. it looks like the hard work has alreay been done on that tank
garetheves
Whats the difference between a Marine and a standard Tropical tank?? Was just going to go for a tropical you see but having seen that one, and a few demo ones in shops, might be tempted to go for this type of thing. jim_supra
I would love a marine tank too, I've got a Tropical tank asit's far easier!

Marine are salt water fish, tropical are fresh water. Its a lot harder to keep marine fish due to the salt water and more expensive but you only get those gorgeous colours and variations in marine (reef) fish. Go for Marine if your prepared for the hard work and expense
Stu_Fraser
Looks like a very nice setup that, used to keep alot of fish a few years ago but never marine's
npotts
Marine fish are a lot harder to keep, as the salt levels have to be maintained daily. If you are thinking of going marine, get the biggest tank possible. The water is far easier to keep at the best possible level for salts, etc... Fish
Ive a similar setup but just a 4ft display tank with a 3ft sump - initially marine care is tough but it all pays off - so much colour and life crawling around Go on - get it
garetheves
tbh not got a lot of room for the tank so was looking at a 3` width max really. Looks like Marine is out of the question, plus im a lazy fooker so the hard work is putting me off. Can you still get the live rocks and coral etc in a tropical or are they more a marine. You can still get some pretty fancy coloured tropical fish as well.
Mike B
I keep marine fish - and have bought at least 5 of these marine tanks off ebay - adding to mine which is 8x2x2 foot - twice the size of this... I also have a 4x2x2 at work... they are beautiful, and a piece of piss to keep... a lot of unforunded scaremongering on their upkeep. the most expensive part is the salt for the water changes, food and electricity - my big tank uses 3 x250watt MH lights plus heaters. Very beautiful though - and the wole thing is alive - rock, coral anenomies, crabs, clams, snails, fish, worms, starfish etc... I'd recommend it! Are all those extras like the sump necesary or can you get by with just a 3` tank with filter, heater etc. Also can you put the live rock, coral etc in a normal tropical tank? Fish
I ran a 3ft frag tank for a while and another 3ft for all my baby clowns to grow but wouldn't recommend it as a display mate tbh (unless its 2ft deep x 2ft high) then you could get away with a couple of little ones and a few soft corals. Id go for a tropical setup if you have a standard 3 x1 type tank - they can look pretty fantastic too with the right fish. Good luck fella

Fish
There are a number of different freshwater setups mate that enable various creatures - you really need to think about what you want to be looking at every night and then work toward that type of tank setup. Gold fish, Cold fresh water, Tropical fresh, Marine soft corals/hard corals/fish/community If you get it right these guys live a very long time so you really need to be sure before you start bud - visit your local shop. Rayman
I used to keep Malawi Cichlids, and although maybe not the best for the beginner they are ceratinly easier to keep than marine fish and just as interesting! This thread makes me wanna set up again, they even started breeding just before i had to get rid of them. Great fish to keep but very territorial! garetheves
What are you looking at setting up Gaz, just a tropical freshwater set-up? Originally yes just a tropical freshwater tank approx 3x1x1 or 3x2x2. Its to sit on top of a sideboard so it rules out a large stand housing secondary tanks etc. However having looked around a few aquariums we really have taken a fancy to, what i now know is, a Marine tank. Seen some really nice ones with white sand/gravel, live rocks and coral and some of the more exotic kind of fish. The likes of angel fish are tropical freshwater arent they??
