Mobile Phone Advice Needed Please...

Hi all,

I realised today that i've been on Vodafone pay as you go for almost 10years! Wow!.. I never really pay much attention to how much credit i use so i downloaded a 6 month bank statement and worked it out. Turns out i'm using an average £38.50 on PAYG and i've got a really knackered phone! (nokia6230)... I've decided to get a contract because it should work out cheaper & i'll get a new phone. I could do with some advice please;

1) Which is the best internet site to get one from? any i should avoid?

2) What phone/network should i go for?

3) Any new phones you are impressed with?

I use my phone mainly for texting so i could do with a contract that offers at least 300+ free txts a month. (this is probably because it costs so much to phone on PAYG!)

I have had a quick look on the phones4u website and i quite like the look of the Sony Ericsson W850i which is £35 a month with 500 free txts & 500 free minutes. Anyone got one of these? I doubt i'd use the MP3player though TBH as i've already got one of the purple Sony ones.

The LG chocolate phone looks ok & that has 12months half price rental. Are these any good? All my old phones have always been Nokia but i'm up for a change.

Any help would be much appreciated as i don't want to rush into things & get stuck with a 12/18 month contract that is a complete nightmare!

Cheers,

Rob :)

Hi Rob,

Don't use Phones4U because they're a shower of wankers. I got a phone from them and had it for a week before it spent the next six months being fixed. They wouldn't send me a replacement until it had been in for repair 3 times so I had to use my old phone, but I'd have been buggered if I didn't have a spare.

Orange have one advantage (although you probably have to be on contract for at least a year before you can do this) : they will match any other provider's tarrif.

I've had an Orange sim for about 10 years - even though I don't use it (I have a vodafone account that my company pays). It costs me nothing to keep the Orange sim - because Virgin have a contract with no monthly rental so I told Orange I wanted that one.

As I say - you probably can't do it when you first join, but it's pretty cool that you can choose whatever tarrif suits you from any provider.

LOL at the Phones4u abuse!

Im a Sales Manager at Phones4u, i'd say if go into the store and work out a deal, and get some cash back ;)

Phonewise, i'd say the best phone at the moment is either the Nokia n73 or S.E k800i, they both have awesome camera's. If you want music then the S.E W850i :)

And if your sole purpose is the looks then the Nokia 8800 Sirocco

I just signed up with Orange. Get 500 mins any network anytime and unlimited texts for £35 per month + got a new Nokia N73 (great phone) and then there's Orange Wednesdays :) just on my way out now to watch Borat :)

I got an N73 this week and it's impressed me. I am biased though, since my job is related to such things.

I have 2 phones in 3 network. Good deal last days - Nokia N70 or Nokia 6280 - 18 months contract 15 pounds/month, first 6 months 600 minutes and 2000 txt messages (50 MMS and 50 min of video calls), after 6 months 300 minutes and 1000 txt messages. Price 15 pounds for all contract time.

Nokia 6280 is easier in handling, N70 is like small PDA...
