Restrictor ring "what size" ?

:) Hi Guys n Gals

Just a quick question what size Restrictor ring do we need ?

Ive just done the second Decat with a 50mm restrictor ring in between the decat pipes and im only getting 0.8 Bar of boost (gets there ALOT quicker now tho )

The reason im asking is b4 i replaced the 2nd cat i was getting 1.0 Bar of boost with a FCD and the 1st cat replaced

Im just wondering do i need a restrictor ring at all  OR is there a bigger restrictor ring needed ie 60mm or something ?

The decats are by Blitz and Apexi and the cat back exhaust is a Powerflow 2 and a half inch pipe, Thor FCD, the recomended plugs for decat, standard airbox and filter, and a Walbro pump on its way ;)

Hope someone can shed some light on this ?

Cheers

Ian

They don't work like that, most need fettling to get to the right boost level, when I had one, I had to take it out about 5 times before I got the exact boost I wanted.

So you had to put different sizes of rings to get the Boost you wanted ?

Sorry slight hijack, but just let you know that my son has just had a crash in his first car & wrote it off .He's with Directline fully comp insurance which he had told them all the body kit mods, nice wheels, CD etc, but didn't inform them about his after market exhust which he fitted months after getting insured!!, so when they found this out they cancelled his cover straight away :(

He's lost the lot, including legal help & cover.

So if removing the cats which boosts power & i presume BHP BE WARNED

:) Thanks Hayixer, my insurance has been quoted with the changes but it is a valid point to others

Just another update i still only get 1.0 bar of boost with the 60mm restrictor ring, i thinking along the lines of a "powertek" boost controler jobbie ?? anyone used these ? do they work with the twins setup ? any feed back will be a big help guys

Yes, a mechanical boost controller will work fine. :) Have you tried running the car without a restrictor ring at all by the way?

Thanks Stevie no ive not took the 60mm restrictor ring out yet im thinking of leaving it in and going down the Boost controler valve route as taking the ring out wont make much if any difference and the valve i can tweek down in winter and up in summer ;)

Shytot,

Did you get that boost controller in there? If so, how's it working for you? Don't you think the ring gives you slower boost build times? Did you ever try running without the ring?

I'm about to fit a FCD and have a double decat, so I'm interested in the possibilities if my boost go through the roof after the fix. My mechanic really dislikes the restrictor rings for some reason. Tells I might as well smear tar on my airfilter or so...

Hi mate ive not fitted the Boost controller as yet looks a little bit of a tight squeeze to get in there may wait till warmer weather to tackle that ! :innocent: ive run the car without any restricor ring in, i just had fuel cut at 1.1 bar i havent had the time ( or the weather ) to dial it out yet with the FCD, Ive decided to put a 65mm restrictor ring in to limit the boost to 1.1 bar when i get the fuel cut sorted ......my plans are to fit the boost contoller so when the weather warms up and boost suffers i can raise the boost accordingly ;)

Cant see why you mechanic doesnt like the restrictor rings there wasnt any noticable speed in the boost building when i had a 50mm and then no restrictor ring in i just got more without obviously :search:

Cheers
