HID For Fogs

SIMON LC

Recommended Posts

I seem to remember HID's are a bit slow on the start up.. they aren't like normal bulbs which suddenly kick in. HID lights need time to warm up to tempreature.

Also, why put HIDs in the fogs? Shouldn't really have them on unless there is fog TBH... and it seems an expensive thing to put on for the very occasional use.

HID balasts need a minimum voltage for them to fire up the bulbs, if the voltage is too low they will either flicker on not illuminate at all. Try connecting them directly to the battery to see if the light, if they do, try cleaning up the battery terminals and earthing points to see if this cures the problem.

What do you do about the side lights if your supra is not a face lift model?

Just find which of the 3 wires going into the 3 pin plug is the fog light +ve supply, and cut it and connect it to the +ve feed of the ballasts, then connect the ballast -ve to a chassis earth point. I drilled out the 2 wires that run through the black plastic cover on the back of the foglight and fed the HID wires through the hole, then resealed it with silicon.

If I ever get my ballast back from the supplier of the rubbish HID group buy, i've just got to plug it back in.

Have a look at this thread:

http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=85633

Its been exactly a month since i sent off my faulty ballast to China by signed for airmail, and i'm still waiting for a replacement. If it doesn't arrive in the post today, i'll email him again and probably report him to trading standards as well.

Pretty sure the warranty is with the seller, not the manufacturer so he should supply me with a new ballast from his stock and send the old one to china himself.

not sure if it is vision bulbs or not, the contact email for the group buy was [email protected]

the rubbish HID group buy

That's a bit harsh mate. It was a right royal pain in the ass to me and AFAIK a lot of members got a good deal out of it.

I didn't approach Genuine Autos, that was someone else. After a few emails he seemed fast to respond and helpful. I forwarded all communication transparently to let people make their own minds up about the deal.

I just wanted some HIDs at a good price. :(

Sorry Pete, not implying the group buy was rubbish, just the seller. He was quick to respond when i first contacted him and seemed legit, although sending the faulty part to china seemed a bit odd. I just think he could deal with warranty claims a bit quicker, answer his emails and send stuff airmail by return. If its coming surface post from china it could still be here in a few weeks.
