1st decat with no AFR probe positon

SUPRASUZUKI

Recommended Posts

Just received a 1st decat pipe that doesn't have the location hole for an AFR probe.

The pipe was described as a Chris Wilson (and I've no need to believe otherwise).

I take it the probe is a standard fitment on the Supra?

Is it essential if going BPU?

My understanding is that the ECU increases fuel in relation to boost. So, does the fueling increase due to the increase in boost override the AFR signal?

Is there a danger in not fitting the AFR?

I can't believe there is if Chris is selling pipes without a place for the AFR.

Any info is appreciated.

Cheers.

The AFR probe boss is optional - and isn't used by ECU. If you mean the oxygen sensor, that's in the downpipe. If you mean the other dangly sensor-type thing that sits in the first cat, that's the cat temperature sensor and is really only used as a warning.

You can tie up the temp sensor out of the way if needs be or just chop it off - I've done this and now need to feed the wires back through the floor and unplug the whole thing. I'll then be passing my wideband sensor through.

If you want to use a wideband O2 sensor, then you can buy the bosses from Chris and have someone weld them on for you.

:edit: this is all supposing you have a pre-vvti j-spec :)

Chris does sell pipes with the AFR WB02 boss. Suspect as above you have mistaken it for the temp probe? (although that goes in the second pipe?) - anyway different suppliers put the WB02 boss in different places, I think maybe CW pipes have it in the 2nd decat furthest from the engine and that would explain why your pipe has none.

Just to clarify, anything going to the ECU on a stock car won't by WB02 AFR so it can only be regular O2 lambda or the heat sensor. The only thing that goes in the downpipes is the heat sensor and this lives in the 2nd pipe/cat and can simply be tied out of the way. The lambda doesn't go in either of the pipes, it goes even before the 1st cat IIRC so you don't even need to mess with it - again this is true on a j-spec, not sure if a uk spec has an additional sensor and maybe this is the confusion.
