paul_y3k
I've just bought a HID (6K) kit from xenon direct via ebay. I've seen a few other people that have used them and were chuffed with the results so i thought why not and ordered a set. the bulb size I ordered was 9006 - which is the same size as those that are in the car at the moment (jspec TT aerotop). The kit looks great, but I just cannot get the bulb to position correcty. I'm sat here now, the front light out on the table, and I'm struggling. Should I start shaving the tabs and the mount to get it to fit, or push it harder ? Have I dropped a clanger and bought the wrong kit ? Help guys ! pleaaase. and if anyone is in ipswich that wants a cup of tea and to give me a hand please do !
Nic
9006 bulbs won't fit in the J-spec headlights, you need 9005 bulbs.
Kranz
9005 for J spec. Is it a UK suplier??? Give them a call and plead insanity
paul_y3k
but the halfords 9006 do ? it listed 9006 as dipped and 9005 as main beam
Kranz
9006 is listed for UK spec cars for dipped beam, different to J Spec as the glass headlights are different than J Spec plastic ones.
Rayman
it listed 9006 as dipped and 9005 as main beam Them would be for Uk headlights i believe. I think im right in saying your HID's would fit a pair of Uk headlights!
paul_y3k
ok so why do the 9006 that are in there now fit fine. ? do i have to admit defeat or can I modify the tabs to get to fit then ?
Rayman
9006's are to fat around the rubber collar to fit in, you need the thinner 9005's
milocoon
Been covered before but you do not have 9006 you have 9006J instead, a suitable replacement is a 9005. 9006J only available in JAPAN !
Rayman
ok so why do the 9006 that are in there now fit fine. ? do i have to admit defeat or can I modify the tabs to get to fit then ? I cant understand why the 9006 bulbs you have fit, maybe they have been shaved around the collar? edit: oh if they are 9006J then they should fit, although Jpn only as posted above! paul_y3k
collar ? as in the bits with the tab's ?
Rayman
collar ? as in the bits with the tab's ? Erm its around the rubber bit at the base of the bulb, not where it connects to the loom!
Rayman
The reason they wont fit is because you cant push them far enough into the housing to turn! I dont think they can be modified to fit, the best option is to get a set of Uk headlight, im pretty much 100%sure they would fit the dipped headlight spot on a set of those no modifications needed! paul_y3k
sooooooo five minutes with a file ?
Fifty
Paul nope its the diameter of the centre around the bulb base its 22mm instead of 20mm as in the 9005. I know cos I just got stuffed buying 9006 by mistake. Even with the 9005 had to dremel down 2 of the lugs and remove the 2 slots in the harness clip! I do now have considerably better dipped lights though Rich:d

Rayman
hmmmmm so in theory o should be able to file it down ? or shall i just give up I guess in theory you could file it down, but if you do it wrong it wont fit Uk or J-spec youll be left with a nothing fitment! Fifty
Dont think you should file it because it has a rubber ring round it if you file it this wont fit and your lights will fill up with water? Rich:d
