Kranz
I've been to a few shootings... messy business. As long as people don't point them at each other (or themselves) I'm happy!
robert_gray
More target practice than killing thing, found a couple or half decent one at full UK standard FPS.
bondango
I actually fancy one of them holidays in the Ukraine or somewere, were you can do a days shooting using AK's, armalites, and even RPG's - and it only costs a few quid lol
ChrisSZ
Shooting is actually rather boring and dull unless your targets are genuinely hard to hit e.g. far away, moving, hiding etc. Targets must also 'fall when hit' and make a noise just so's you know you definitely hit the bugger (I mean target) LOL. My favorite shot? 700m downhill, poor visibility, small scope, through the splash-plate of a 155 howitzer into the gun commander a most excellent shot
grahamc
shooting, does that include carbon arrows?
ChrisSZ
Hey! Archery - now that is fun :) Never tried carbon arrows - only ally and wood. I've always wanted to go hunting with a decent compound bow set-up:)
grahamc
carbon are more rigid, so it allows the arrows to travel further! I shoot recurve outdoor target only so far. Might be doing a field competition in Boxhill (Surrey) this weekend, should be entertaining. Compound is next...
ChrisSZ
How do these affect the 'archer's paradox'?
grahamc
what paradox?
ChrisSZ
- where the arrow bends around the bow - enabling it to fly straight. Probably not so important in more modern bows where the rest is directly in line with the string. Older set-ups used arrows with a degree of flex in them - this allowed them to bend as the pressure of the string pushed them forwards - the arrow would then straighten up - the archers paradox
grahamc
ok that one... I thought you were talking about, 'How to repeat the perfect shot'. Which of course is impossible... Well they do still flex, so that they avoid the riser, but not anywhere near as much as wooden or ally arrows. They also straighten out more quickly. As you said though, modern bows, rest, pressure buttons, and so on, all help.

Ewen
Still got my old Airsporter and a couple of CO2 pistols, but never progressed from hobyist. Archery on the other hand, now that was a passion back in the old days. I had two bows from Border Bows, beautiful things, but way before composite / three-piece became popular. I used to be able to pull 60 lbs when I was younger but those days are gone. I used a 48 lb pull mainly but I had problems with accuracy at higher weights. Did two club competitions at Tattershall Castle before I realised how crap I was. Maybe its something I can take up again in my twilight years. Andy-No-Knee
I've squeezed off a round or two with a couple of differant fire arms. Incoming rounds arn't as much fun though . Ditto, although when the little lead wasp's are flying around on the two way range it has been known for people to let a few chocolate hostages free...... Even worse, when the flip flop skip lickers who are firing in your direction are your fekkin allies and are doing it out of bad skills and the fact they are cone heads, not cos they want to get brassed up! Grrrr!
