heckler
point are effective from the date of conviction, and are valid for 3 years, but stay on you licence for 4 years
Jake
How long they stay on there depends on what they're for. I've still got some points from Sept 1997. Endorsements and disqualifications http://www.direct.gov.uk/Motoring/DriverLicensing/EndorsementsAndDisqualifications/EndorsementsDisqualificationsArticles/fs/en?CONTENT_ID=4022550&chk=P3SAoK The amount of time in which an endorsement remains on your licence depends on the type of offence committed. The date in which the endorsement starts also depends on the type of offence. Endorsements must remain on a licence for 11 years from date of conviction if the offence is: * drinking/drugs and driving (shown on the licence as DR10, DR20, DR30 and DR80) * causing death by careless driving whilst under the influence of drink/drugs (shown on the licence as CD40, CD50 and CD60) * causing death by careless driving, then failing to provide a specimen for analysis (shown on the licence as CD70) Endorsements must remain on a licence for four years from date of conviction if the offence is: * reckless/dangerous driving (shown on the licence as DD40, DD60 and DD80) * offences resulting in disqualification * disqualified from holding a full licence until a driving test has been passed Endorsements must remain on a licence for four years from the date of offence in all other cases. GeordieSteve
How long they stay on there depends on what they're for. I've still got some points from Sept 1997. How long are those ones "effective" for? I still have 11 from 1999
Jake
Depends what you mean by "effective". I don't declare my drink driving conviction to insurers anymore because the Rehabilition Of Offenders Act says I don't have to after 5 years. It's still on my license for 11 years though. GeordieSteve
hmmm ok I'm in the same boat. I got 11 points for dr10 in 99. In 03 I got another 4 points and thought it was game over but I kept my licence and effectivly have 15 points on there now. I take it the 11 year rule is on your licence for 11 year but again only "effective" for 4?
Jake
Did you actually get points for the DR10 then? I didn't. I mean, I know you got a ban but have you really got points on your license or just an endorsement on there?
GeordieSteve
I didn't get a ban mate. Just points

GeordieSteve
I got 11 points for dr10 in 99 Sadly
Jake
OK sorry I missed that. I just checked my license and I deffo got zero points for my DR10. It actually says Points 00. Even though the DVLA web site says the minimum is 3 points (and max is 11) You must've been well pissed to get 11 ! I was only just over the limit (I blew a 42 at the nick) so maybe that's why they were lenient with me.
GeordieSteve
Apparently I had mitigating circumstances so wasn't banned but "only" got points. Saying that I was 17 and blew a
Rickeh
Unfortunately I think it's from date of conviction, as if it was date of offence I would've been nearly ready to give them up, offence comitted when I was 17, convicted when I was 19... not cool. 20 now. See post #5 mate. For speeding it's from the date of the offense unless you were banned.
Rickeh
Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. DUnno how I managed to miss the bit in bright red writing... My insurance company only ask for the date of conviction, hmmm. So you don't have to tell insurance 3 years after the date of conviction for speeding if you didn't get banned? Good news for me then
Rickeh
I mean date of offence :S
Jake
Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. Not at all. The smiley was because it seemed like you were rather ignoring the already posted definitive answer from the government website.
