Removing the exhaust and cats...

Sounds like you've possibly got a replacement gasket for the 1st cat. The gaskets I have are silver and shaped like the exhaust flanges, with holes in for the bolts. Although you may have bought replacement gaskets for the original exhaust (no idea what it's like). In which case they are wrong.

well I did order the parts which were on the exploded diagram of the exhaust system (from the toyota parts program thing). In the pictures, they all look like rings.

What you described was what I was expecting, but they look like what they look like in the picture I've got. Also, the garage which got them for me didn't seem to think they were the wrong part?

Possibly these are the stock toyota gaskets??

Another quick question.....

The cat closest to the engine seemed to have some sort of sensor plugged into it? I assume (havn't looked), that the decat will have the same space for the sensor??

Thanks!! :)

Sounds like the O2 (lambda) sensor and the decat should have a flange for it to go back in.

Yup, sounds like stock gaskets then mate. You need the aftermarket gaskets, unfortunately. 2 of them in total, and a tube of Firegum or similar exhaust sealant for the 1st cat.

As I mentioned, Chris Wilson does the proper Trust gaskets. iirc they're about £8.50 each. Ask him nicely, he may throw in some bolts as well ;)

Well I gave up on the cat closest to the engine! Couldn't get it off at all!!?!.....

Put the exhaust on with that cat still in place. Not noticed any performace difference than before and it doesn't hit fuel cut etc either. I take it this is the norm?

I'll be taking it to an exhaust place this week to get that cat off! :)
