VIL
Just got the new Sony Vaio, only released last week and like hens teeth to get hold of, its fantastic but I think would be a bit small and too pricey for you! I know in the world of laptops Acer is a dirty word as they are more bottom end of the market but a designer friend of mine has just bought a huge 21" laptop to do large work on, and I have to admit its quite impressive. You might want to take a look at them, I think he got his from `Dabs`. Although as I say, I cant vouch for the long term robustness of Acer stuff? If it helps we all get our machines from `Micro Anvika`, who to date have been very good.

Snooze
A couple of mates of mine have done a lot of investigation and shopping around for laptops recently, and they both (independently) ended up going for the same one: Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Xi

bromy
What do you want use Autocad inventor for? use a proper mans tools Pro Engineer and Edgecam, seriously Dean I am running these two as well as autocad on my lappy so you should not need a massive spec
RedM
I've always liked Toshiba laptops. I know you know the difference but what makes me laugh is when people ask stupid questions like, "Martin, who made your PC?" "Evesham" "Oh, mine's a Dell. Will it run the same software?" bromy
Forgot to say, bare in mind you will also need xp professional for inventor:)
dane_stone
Forgot to say, bare in mind you will also need xp professional for inventor:) Cheers for the heads up about that. Only using Inventor cos that’s what we'll be getting at work soon (fingers crossed). But once I've got to grips with it might move on to Pro Engineer and Edgecam. Would it be easy to move over to one of these from Inventor? or are they allot more different. Still using 2D AutoCAD LT 2002 at work and it's so boring Inventers seem much easier to use. Sheefa
Don't be put off by Vil's comment about ACER machines mate. (No offence Vil) They aren't at the low end of the market at all, in fact, quite the opposite. They are affiliated with ASUS (considered often to be the best) and despite components being second grade they are generally faultless and performance for price is pretty much unrivalled. This is the Laptop I picked up for my sisters 18th on behalf of my old dears and it's a stormer. http://www.laptopshop.co.uk/acer-aspire_5672wlmi_lsb-laptop-4-n2.htm Just shows that they don't have to be top 'brand' labelled. Good luck. Greg
