Guest Usmann A Posted May 2, 2004 Share Posted May 2, 2004 Yes, but they go on to say, that the actual method of testing on a flowbench cannot prove, anything but Runner flows, hence they need to be put on a engine dyno, under real circumstances. OK, yes the VS has velocity stacks, which to many hinder smooth airflow, but get it under High boosting conditions with real turbulance, things may differ..... Its all well and good to do a airflow test and say, well this is this, and that is better than that, you have to get it under a hood, to see how it really performs, and affects engine response/power etc. I alwasys assumed that the Volume of the Plenum should be at least 1.5 x the displacement ? Syed Shah Posted May 3, 2004 Share Posted May 3, 2004 I'm less concerned with flow as I am with cylinder distribution, and a flow bench does give us that. It is the only reason to upgrade from stock anyway, as it can handle 800+ HP, but not with satisfactory distribution. As for Velocity stacks, I have never heard of anything good about them for serious turbo applications. The evidence from the AEM tuners ties in with this. (no.6 will alaways be a tad more leaner) Yes, you are correct with the velocity stacks, and you refer to AEM tuners, are you saying that these are what cause a sudden need to fuel more, which was worrying them?(whie using the VS) Bottom line is if you want even distribition then have the Throlttle body opposite the plenum, that will give you even distribution(well near enough) to each on of the runners, yet cause slight pressure drop ..... NA STYLEE.. Its all well and good talking away at intake manifold designs, its interesting, but I say them both on a dyno, with an equally modified cylinder head, and see what they do. Syed Shah Posted May 3, 2004 Share Posted May 3, 2004 Usmann, for the velocity stacks v unstable AFRs. I honestly don't know, and AFAIK, they don't eirther. But that is what they suspect, and to me it makes sense given the fact they are unsuitable for turbo apps, and would cause turbulence in the plenum. I agree with the dyno being best, but flow bench figures are worth a lot too, and if they are all we have to go by, it is what I would use. I think too many people get sucked in by the exclusivity of the price, being handmade and the massive TB rather than it's design or effectivness.
