hob
As remembrance day is coming up, I thought do poppy's cost anything I always give money, but never take a poppy since I view that my money has gone straight to the cause rather than -x pence for the cost of a poppy, but then I thought maybe there is a special agreement and they get the poppy's manufactured for free? Does anyone know, saves me walking round looking like a tight git

SupraStar 3000
Poppy day is great. I love dressing up as a grey statue and standing motionless in the city center whilst pigeons crap on my head! Hold on! Thats pompey day isn't it!

Thorin
likewise, if it wasnt for those guys we wouldnt be here today I wholeheartedly agree about the old boys who fought in the two World Wars, they didn't have a choice about going to war and fighting to defend our country... but that's not where all the money goes. michael
likewise, if it wasnt for those guys we wouldnt be here today I suspect we would be, just with a more efficient government, a wider selection of sausages, more good beers, a better transport system and no sense of humour. Did anyone see comedian Jimmy Carr last night on tv To anyone who says: "With the Germans in power today we would have a better transport system" I agree, but think where all the trains would be going? Kittyclaws
I always buy a poppy, then lose it, then buy another, then lose that one too. Every year i buy between 4 to 6 poppies. Off on the 12th nov, so i'm off to my local church, fully booted and suited

Bondy
When all the old boys have snuffed it will we still have the poppy appeal? Its not just for the "old boys", its for the young ones too, the ones that are in Iraq and Afghanistan right now, the ones being blown up and shot for this countries politicians, its also for the wives and families that are left behind and the servicemen that have been disabled out of the forces (like myself) And for your donations i'd like to say thank you

The soldiers you mention CHOSE to join the army and go to Iraq etc. why should we give them money?
dangerous brain
And like I said before, the old boys had no choice. The soldiers you mention CHOSE to join the army and go to Iraq etc. why should we give them money? Because if someone didn't volunteer for it then there'd be conscription again. You could say that police join the force knowing that they could get hurt so why have a fund to help the wives of killed and injured in the line of duty policemen etc etc.
Thorin
Because if someone didn't volunteer for it then there'd be conscription again. Rubbish. You could say that police join the force knowing that they could get hurt so why have a fund to help the wives of killed and injured in the line of duty policemen etc etc. Indeed I would. Why do you think life insurance exists?
