cntt Posted October 31, 2006 Share Posted October 31, 2006 one of the front shock was making a knocking noise on Chris's Supra(SupraDupra), so we replaced the whole set on his car, everything now are good something I cannot understand, even had another mechanic looked at the shock while it was out of the car, took spring off, checked the shock there's nothing wrong.the only problem we can see there was that the stopper was gone on both front shocks, toerh than that they are stiff as they should be, no leak. put the whole set on to my car, all with stock springs, replaced stopper with my own ones which are like new. Driving home, knocking sound I can hear from the shock that was doing the same thing while it was on chris's car, only does it when I go over ramps, even at very very very low speed, unless if I slow the car to almost stop then it may not make any noise. anyone got any idea? cheers Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
D8MOA Posted October 31, 2006 Share Posted October 31, 2006 i sold him them shocks, glad his noise has gone! the shocks i then put on my car knock on the o/s/r, and lexus's have a common problem with knocking shocks with no visual problem's!! its just a internal problem. I had TTE coilovers on the old Lexus which were height adjustable and they never knocked, although the Apexi's knock like crazy, but one of the lads over on LOC found a cure - would only apply to height adjustable one's though - if it's the same here I'll dig out the fix documentation for it so you can try that to see if it fixes it here? That sux, must look out for one of those so I can replace it, the rest of them are perfect, actually I have your rear shocks on my car D8MOA when I was doing the shocks for Chris, I figured that his rear shocks are slightly higher up than the ones he got from you, and the front of his are slightly lower than the ones he got of you. the rear end of his was low enough as it is so I just put a stopper in to one side on the rear which hasn't got one and thats it I used the ones that came from you on the rear The front of my car now has dropped by half inch to an inch lower, somewhere around that, the rear is tinny bit lower. shame for the knocking noise Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

You can with a damper dyno.... can send it to people like Spax, but its more cost effective to just replace it TBH. If one's gone then the other three can't be far behind. cntt Posted November 4, 2006 Author Share Posted November 4, 2006 a little update on the problem wit these shocks, it mightn't be anything wrong with them at all, as chris's car was still making a knocking noise going over ramps and bad bumps, I replaced the drop link on it, and now its perfect.
