Matt Harwood
Speaking of people not knowing of older bands.... When the Sugarbabes released their single "Freak Like Me", (using a very obvious sample Gary Numans "Are Friends Electric"), they were interviewed and asked if they had ever been inspired by Gary Numans music..... One of them said she had no idea who Gary Numan was!

Faye
I might know the song, can you sing a few verses for me? I hear a lot of stories I suppose they could be true All about love And what it can do to you High is the risk of striking out The risk of getting hurt And still, I have so much to learn I know, 'cause I think about it all the time I know that real love is quite a vice And a good heart these days is hard to find (a good heart) True love, the lasting kind A good heart these days is hard to find So please be gentle with this heart of mine My expectations may be high I blame it on my youth Soon enough I learned the painful truth I'll face it like a fighter Then boast of how I've grown Anything is better than being alone Well I know, 'cause I learn a little every day I know, 'cause I listen when the experts say That a good heart these days is hard to find (a good heart) True love, the lasting kind A good heart these days is hard to find (ooh) So please be gentle with this heart of mine, yeah Hey As I reflect on all my childhood dreams My ideas of love weren't as foolish as they seemed If I don't start looking now, I'll be left behind And a good heart these days, it's hard to find I know, it's a dream I'm willing to defend I know it will all be worth it in the end And a good heart these days is hard to find (a good heart) True love, the lasting kind A good heart these days is hard to find So please be gentle with this heart of mine And a good heart these days is hard to find (a good heart) True love, the lasting kind (Ooh) a good heart these days is hard to find So please be gentle with this heart With this heart of mine (Oh oh oh oh oh oh, a good heart) (Ah, hey hey, a good heart) (Oh oh oh oh oh oh, a good heart) (Ah-ha ah-ha ah-ha, a good heart) (Oh oh oh, keep it up, keep it up, keep it up)

Shane
Look on youtube, loads of great stuff like that. "my perfect cousin" What a track. Bad mother's pride haircut though in the undertone days, thing is it would have been bad even then! Just shown my bird a video clip of Wilko Johnson when he was in feelgood on youtube and another of the sensational Alex Harvey band, she thinks I am mad. But there again she was only 2 when I was travelling up and down the country to watch them! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iMvc4scaApg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2IEvZz6zvNY

dazla
For someone who is so obviously "god like", I have never heard of him. As Clarkson might say, does his lyrical genius include things like "Slap me bitch hoe down - innit" Your obviously thinking of 2pac as just another black rapper. putting him into that category as a black man talking shit about guns and violence. Like you say you haven't heard of him so how can you judge.. now i have heard of shaky and Adam ant, and bowie and that was the thing to be into in your day. and you expect people to have respect for the years of your time. I take you like 1920's music then. No i didnt think so. Because you weren't around in that time. Lets just say if your born into a certain year of music. Then that is what you like best. And nobody can change your mind. Oh and how did you know he was a rapper if you have'nt even heard of him. He has obviously made a missive impact on the world of music and entertainment. I bet everybody on this forum has heard of him in some way or another.

I reckon a song title like "Strictly for my Niggaz" is a bit of a giveaway eh? I take you like 1920's music then. No i didnt think so. Because you weren't around in that time. Lets just say if your born into a certain year of music. Then that is what you like best. And nobody can change your mind. I wasn't around between 1750 and 1850 but still think that music from Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Bach and Chopin was pretty good - so that ruins that argument eh? Oh and how did you know he was a rapper if you have'nt even heard of him. He has obviously made a missive impact on the world of music and entertainment. I bet everybody on this forum has heard of him in some way or another. But you would lose the bet as I had never heard of the gentleman until I searched Amazon. The Lyrics Are Below Boys Keep Swinging ================== one of david bowie's tracks, "Boys Keep Swinging" Heaven loves ya The clouds part for ya Nothing stands in your way When you're a boy Clothes always fit ya Life is a pop of the cherry When you're a boy When you're a boy You can wear a uniform When you're a boy Other boys check you out You get a girl These are your favourite things When you're a boy Boys Boys Boys keep swinging Boys always work it out Uncage the colours Unfurl the flag Luck just kissed you hello When you're a boy They'll never clone ya You're always first on the line When you're a boy When you're a boy You can buy a home of your own When you're a boy Learn to drive and everything You'll get your share When you're a boy Boys Boys Boys keep swinging Boys always work it out I TAKE IT BY THE TITLE HE'S NOT TALKING ABOUT HIS "HOMIES" born with a silver spoon and all that bull! but means the same thing as "strictly for my niggaz". Thorin
"Most of Shakur's songs are about growing up around violence and hardship in ghettos, racism, problems in society, and sometimes his feuds with fellow rappers." Your obviously thinking of 2pac as just another black rapper. putting him into that category as a black man talking shit about guns and violence. Seems like a pretty good category to put him into then.
dazla
Seems like a pretty good category to put him into then. yes i no alot of his music is violent and sometimes stereotypical of all the rappers. but alot of it is poetic and meaning full. he's singing about facts in life and the past and present. if you listened to some of the lyrics he's wrote. you would understand. your all being that stereotype yourselves by not giving someone a chance and that's a shame. this is a little taster of shakur [Tupac] As real as it seems the American Dream Ain't nothing but another calculated schemes To get us locked up shot up back in chains To deny us of the future rob our names Kept my history of mystery but now I see The American Dream wasn't meant for me Cause lady liberty is a hypocrite she lied to me Promised me freedom, education, equality Never gave me nothing but slavery And now look at how dangerous you made me Calling me a mad man cause I'm strong and bold With this dump full of knowledge of the lies you told Promise me emancipation indispute nation All you gave my people was our patience Fathers of our country never cared for me They kept my answer shackled up in slavery And Uncle Sam never did a dam thing for me Except lie about the facts in my history So now I'm sitting hear mad cause I'm unemployed But the government's glad cause they enjoyed When my people are down so they can screw us around Time to change the government now panther power now surely that is not all bad.
