garetheves
As above really. Car was in the garage today sorting out my missfire and i hung around for a while. While i was there they checked the ECU for faults and told me i had a Toms ECU fitted instead of the factory one. Ive heard of them before but never read any reports. Are they any good?? Whats the advantage over stock, if any??
aido
One of the Aristo guys I know has one of these, basically think it's a more aggressive map and also doesn't need an SLD as it's delimited as standard on the TOMS version. To quote off his website http://www.lexusvertex.com: Removes boost limit (more boost, more hp), fuel cut and speed limiter. Also allows rev range to 8000rpm. Boost and fuel maps have to be programmed by laptop. ECU in engine bay, very easy install. They're expensive so you're lucky to have one as standard! RedM
Have you asked Tom is it's any good? Does he even know you have it?
garetheves
Have you asked Tom is it's any good? Does he even know you have it? You know i nearly put in my first post, "And no jokes about whether Tom wants it back etc etc" because i just knew either you or Michael would make a joke. lol. So even if its not a massive bonus i suppose its a fairly good selling point, should i ever sell. Sounds impressive lol.
Nic
I road (seat of the pants) tested a TOMS T.E.C.II ecu a few years ago when my car was relatively stock, it made a noticeable performance difference compared to the stock ecu ie. more responsive and pulled harder. http://www.tomsracing.co.jp/e/product/engine_tec2.htm
Class One
IIRC they also have a higher fuel cut threshold.
mikeyb10supra
Nic how much will one of these little bad boys set you back....might be ab option for budget single guys if you can control fuelling etc with it
mawby
I had one of these. Here is some background information on it. When I enquired about it when I first discovered I had one I was told that they cost ~£1000 and were sold on an exchange basis, so that's why previously modified import cars which have been returned to stock still have them in as the owner no longer has the original ECU. That's going back a few years now though.
garetheves
Cheers for the replies guys. I like hidden surprises (of the nice kind anyway) in my Supra. Reminds me of when i found a hidden Turbo Timer behind the dash in my old one. Ive also head that no one over here can re-map them, is this correct? mawby
They are not re-mapable, at least mine wasn't. It is simply a modified stock ECU.

ManwithSupra
Is the only whay to find out if you have a modified ECU by toms by opening the ECU cover? Cos apprantly mine has one but it has the stock ECU cover?
mawby
Nope, it is written on the outside of the ECU.
ManwithSupra
ok cool, - just having a look at the toms website, i find japaneese to english conversions funny here is a bit of it... "The first-class brakes system which controls speed of a heavyweight division high performance car surely. It is completed by joint development with British ap racing company that It adopt in a racing machine. It called and did scrupulous consideration for an unpleasant dirt, and, not to mention splendid effectiveness and feeling, it was developed brakes. Ultimate brakes system was completed here". CardiffSupra
I'v got a Toms ECU in mine, Its quite worrieing TBH. I'v only just found out the car used to have a fmic but its been put back to stock when imported, makes you think what else has it had done and what condition the turbos are in if they have been running high boost for a long while. mikeyb10supra
would have thought so....it woud need to control your shifts and wouldn't be programmed into the manual one
