Mark Ayling
As its coming up to Winter, I thought I'd better get myself some proper windscreen wipers as mine currently don't work over 80mph!!! Does anyone else have this problem? If not, what wipers shall I get? I think the ones that are on there now are standard H*lfords jobs. I saw someone at Boxhill with some nice silver-coloured PIAA ones, I wouldn't mind a set of them....
Guest Martin F
Mark you tart!!!!!!!!!!!! Do your wiper arms have any spoilers on them to force the blades against the windscreen at high speed ??
GavinL
Hi.... I seemed to recall a post a while back on this subject. I think (that's a first) the conclusion was to use the Toyota OEM blades, they have the little spoiler jobbie on them that prevents lift at high speed. regards...................... Mark Ayling
No I haven't got "spoilers" on mine - maybe I could get Veilside spoilers! :cheesy: Cheers guys, I'll give Mr. Toyota a ring...
Doughie
Christ knows what Toyota will charge .... but i'm sure they're good. For my Golf I use Bosch wipers and they ARE good. I tried 3 or 4 different types of wipers and they were all cr*p and then i tried these Bosch Hi-Performance ones (can't remember the *exact* name) and they're great. Branners
My wipers used to lift at 80mph until I got the little wing one fitted and now they lift at about 100mph, so a bit of an improvement. I got mine second hand from Pete Betts though so I dont know how much they will cost. JB
GavinL
My car has the OEM blades fitted. Quite a nice system to my mind as they sell just the wiper inserts on there own for a fiver. I just take the whole wiper into the spares dept at my local Toyota garage and the guy does it for me on the spot........great for the automotively challenged like me. Alex
Halfrauds have a whole range with or without spoilers.... I use them and they are fine! Whilst we are talking about them. In the centre of my field of view I always get a poorly wiped bit. Whatever speed I'm at. In heavy rain I have to jack up the seat to see over this area. I've changed the wipers and I've got no real improvement. Is there anything that I can do to my screen/ wipers to get them to clean this bit better. Are some wipers less sturdy/flexible than others - in which case my "brand" could be poor, or is my only escape to use RainX? My wipers already have spoilers (Edited by Alex Holdroyd at 12:53 pm on Sep. 10, 2001)
Rolec
I never have this problem - i've found not going over 80mph far more satisfying and safe  Dean..
Ian C
Mine are currently doing this at 85+, very annoying. The only thing that got a result on my mkIII was to bend the wiper arm, very carefully and only by a tiny amount, towrads the screen so that it presses a bit harder. It actually worked incredibly well. I found that at 1000mph, my MkIV's drivers' side wiper will skip every single droplet of rain. The passenger one functions flawlessly. How ironic. -Ian
Mark Ayling
JESUS! What mods have you got if you're doing 1000mph?
Paul Booth
I too had blade aquaplaining at about 70MPH. I fitted the blades with the aerofoil and all that's done is move the lift-off speed to about 85MPH. Likewise, my passenger wiper works perfectly at all speeds. Doughie
Hey, is this another UK-spec vs. J-spec differrence ??? My "UK-spec" wipers have never lifted off screen and work perfectly !! Maybe Toyota even up-specced the wipers for the UK ....... ;-)
Mark Ayling
You could be right there - four of us drove up to Trax and it rained quite a bit on the way there. My mate in his UK spec said he did not have any trouble with his wipers lifting off.
Eric Kasir
Nope, I never suffered 'Wiper Lift' at speed on my UK spec. Eric
Steve Cargill
I remember reading a few years ago a magazine doing a review of a AM Vantage, they had that problem at about 130 MPH ISTR. They took it as a "safety device" to stop you going TOOOO fast in the wet

Rich J
I found the Halfords "winged" blades actually worked better then the Bosch ones even though they didn't look as good.
